Well, Swim has done a very stupid thing.Rolling eyes Following a successful STB, he felt like trying the somewhat more fancy A/B tek here:
https://dmt-nexus.me/webackup/tek5-ravers.htm
It all went well till swim was pulling some of that acidified solution out with a Baster that had a bit of soap left in it (bad!). Things got a bit messy from then on. Defatting with naptha caused a weird emulsion, but it separated. Swim went ahead and basified while hot, which caused some another strange reaction (soap and naptha leftovers I assume), mostly green foam, and a bunch of ash-green stuff separated out of the solution (1/3 of the volume). At this point swim checked the PH and it seemed way too high, so swim did another stupid thing and added more HCI to balance it out, which didn't help at all. (only ph paper was available, which sucks). Swim separated the liquids/solids, and did two pulls with Naptha on the liquid, which resulted in simple nothing-ness. Swim realizes he has done several stupid things here, and none of this material is salvageable. Now he's merely interested to find out what happened there, and what was the dumbest thing he did??

Thanks in advance for any light shed on this!
peace

i concur that basifiying while the solution is hot is a very bad idea....not only does it cause weird reactons that fuck up the processCrying or very sad it can and will backsplash, splatter, spray up to the ceeling or in your eyes...hope your were wearing gogglesShocked

SWIM wouldn't normally have done that, but the tek said to heat it up afterwards:
'Stir the solution frequently, and bring to simmer for 15 minutes or so, ensuring the conversion of salts to their freebase...'
SWIM must have done that too early..., how did the soap affect things?

probally didnt do much(i'm just guessing) maybe mininal perfume oils in the solvent...but i know for a fact hot basification fucks up whatever extraction being mesc or dmt...patience is a virtue...one of many lessons i've learned the hard way ...i always basify h20 in a seperate container and wait for both the syrup and the naoh/h20 to cool before mixing as that alone they produce heat when first mixed(the naoh & H20)

pH cannot be 'too high' in dmt extraction.. to high pH = no problem, even less emulsions (but be careful not to spill it on your skin or smt!! ) .. So this story of adding hcl was very unnecessary

and basifying hot is also no problem, dmt wont really be hurt or anything..

the soap story is the big problem, soap makes polars and non polars mix, instead of staying separate like oil/water (and thats the point of soap, so you can clean better, otherwise just water washing wont get rid of oily stuff from your hands/body/plates). Also soap might have other chemicals that could react in other unknown ways with your extractions

be more careful next time

Oh yeah, that's what I thought where the problem was! Once Swim saw the bubbles he knew he was in trouble. Adding hcl was a panic reaction. Swim will take it easy next time, and make sure everything is clean. What a chump, I can't believe he did this!

forgot to ask; in such an instance, can anything be saved?
