Welcome back, Burnt. This is exactly why you are needed here. I don't have the ability to determine good science from bad. You do, though - and it's nice to have a couple of smart guys in residence to police the flow of bad information.
Stick around, won't you?

Can somone please explain why a fairy serious thread dispersed into utter nonsense. I was just asking a simple question: does anyone know that list of the planes of reality? you know, the one which goes etheric, astral, mental, plane of infinite consiousness, plane of infinite awareness, ... something something... samsara. hmn? burnt wrote:

no need for calling someone narrow minded just because its a dissenting opinion.. Im glad we have people like burnt that dont follow beliefs just because Y number of people or a whole continent believes in it.. number of followers doesnt make anything more correct I must say I did have the feeling many times, during a trip or not, that reality is indeed created in several levels and scales, with fractal-like repeating patterns... This makes me interested in this thread but I dont jump to the conclusion that my feelings are an accurate model of reality, so my mind maintains curiously opened. I think science is wonderful for understanding a lot about us and the universe and it has an incredibly important part in these discussions, as long as we also remember science is open-ended and susceptible to change, as well as that it is a model that works excellently for certain things (like talking about the mathematical/physical backbone of reality) and not so useful for others (like talking about love or ethics)..

I'm sorry, I guess I don't know what the fuck is up. Could you explain your response to the original post in layman's terms? I thought I was just stupid, but now I see that it didn't make sense because I am not a physicist. Pokey the Layman

If you tell a lie, you are introducing an incorrect term into that equation and the rules of this universe are such that this balances out, you will eventually get paid back exactly for what you incorrectly introduced into that equation. I am calling bullshit on this sorry. I am also calling bullshit on that entire website you cited. Its crap and no one should take it seriously. Intelligent design new age bullshit 100%. Why hasn't this guy published in real peer reviewed scientific journals? Oh yea if you listen to him try to defend himself he'll say "they don't like our theories there too fringe" etc etc etc BULLSHIT! Thats how you know someone is full of it. You can also know when someone is full of it when the only information you can find about their theory is on new age websites. Not only that we can debate the finer points of this so called theory if you want. But I am not a physicist. However even I with my humble knowledge on the subject can see when someone is full of it. http://www.bautforum.com...ether-physics-model.htmlHere you can watch this guy sadly try to defend himself and his theories in front of a bunch of physics students on a web board. I am also calling bullshit on chakras again. Why? Because they are not real! Get over it! hahahah im just messing around but being serious at the same time. Guy who posted that stuff can you please explain why you were interested in this website. I am especially curious because you said you were into physics. Hehe, reread my post! I put a disclaimer into this a while ago, I was tripping pretty damn hard when I wrote these posts, you know how it is when your mind is in a frenzy of making connections. Reading my post over it does seem like a mish mash of ideas but I speaking from a sober POV I assure you that most of it is indeed fairly rational although phrased in that strange manner that you do when tripping, where you try to explain something and it sounds like a load of bullshit but it's really because you're saying A therefore Z while B-Y flash through your head in a split second and never actually exit your mouth. I stand by that last little quote however, it is tautological truth. Let's say someone asks you where Bob is. You say Bob is next door when he is actually across the atlantic. That lie is essentially pumping false information into the "function of the universe" and that results in chaos, which is simply the disruption of flow. That general principle is what I mean, it is strikingly obvious as well. Fluid movement (of anything) in itself is a very interesting phenomenon and it has spiritual/meditative links. That post, in the quote box where I linked that site wrote:Note: I don't know if this is crackpot physics and I sure as hell didn't have my ability to judge when I wrote this ) What threw me off mainly is that I checked their list of "predictions" and saw that it lined up with the standard model. Also, the site was an afterthought, I didn't expect it to suddenly be the feauture of this thread. To be brutally honest, that pretty picture of the spinning toroids is the primary reason for even mentioning that site. Quote:I'm sorry, I guess I don't know what the fuck is up. Could you explain your response to the original post in layman's terms? I thought I was just stupid, but now I see that it didn't make sense because I am not a physicist. Don't be so tetchy good sir, the whole post was in layman's terms, I'm not claiming to be Stephen Hawking here. If it was stupid, do comment on it. I'll keep in mind to clearly label every non-sober post XD Also, by "what the fuck is up" I mean this: irrespective of your existence, there exists an objective reality which just is. Any observer that exists in this reality will see this same reality irrespective of the way in which they are configured to observe (for humans, things such as prior conditioning). That is "what the fuck is up". Now when you pursue any natural science, you restrict yourself to purely that which is independent of the observer in particular, that there is objective reality and that is indeed what the fuck is up. Don't like it, tough shit. However, work with it, and you get very far! I did throw a couple of disclaimers into my posts but I guess they flew under the radar.

Okay thats true what you said about number of believers. However, what I meant was that you - as a westerner - believe in the western system. "narrow minded westerner" (no offence intended at all, let me make that 100% clear, my friend.) In the east they believe that you can reach knowledge through inner experience and not through outward observation; because as well all know when you get to the quantum level what you are observing, you change. so, there may be some truth in this. Chakras are no more hocus pocus because they can be observed through meditative trance, or felt using chi energy than the higgs boson is hocus pocus because it can be predicted mathematically. everything is equally valid. all things are possible. Its that we're talking about different systems of understanding, different viewpoints. The birth of the universe is simultaneously a scientific and spiritual phenomenon. Likewise I believe that energy nexuses and energy flow within the body can be understood as a malignant growth of cells, or a mineral deficiency. can you see that there is more than one side to a coin? I could go on for hours about east and west understandings but ultimately one will try to discredit the other and vice versa. Both can exist at the same time, and both can be right while the other is wrong, it doesn't mean that one is wrong and the other must be right. thats what I feel anyway, and thats what i've read and understood so far. It makes sense to me too, whether somone cures a patient by acupuncture or whether somone cures a patient with ritalin is really irrelevant to me, neither is better, just different. shoe

Hey shoe my bad I am going to try and NOT discuss things like chakras because it tends to be like 2012 debates and goes no where. My fault I need to control my lash outs against things that irritate me (they shouldn't really irritate me anyway although they do but for more professional rather then personal reasons).
Embracethevoid I totally did not know you were tripping or had some secondary thoughts about what you said. I wasn't saying that you were the one bullshitting but I wanted to say that the website you cited was bullshit. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

burnt, are you aware of cymatic studies? Take notice that certain frequencies spin clock-wise, and if you raise them ever so slightly they will begin to spin counter clockwise. This is scientific fact. Little did you know, chakra translates to pinwheel from the hindu language.
If you studied the hindu yoga systems, you would find they use chakras as a system of understanding meridians of the CNS as well as their energetic and conscious reflections. We think with our bodies. You cannot deny this. Go downtown on a saturday night you will see a world that is thinking with their sex chakras. Then comes the solar plexus, a place of balance, and the fight-or-flight mode. Higher into the heart, the love factory. Keeping this open is a beautiful thing. The throat, where you express. Ever notice that Ball in your throat when you hold back from crying? Ajna, The third eye. And sahasrara, the crown.
These chakras are just a system. There are many different systems. None are true, none are false. I have learned a lot about the human body by studying the hindu chakra system. I find it hilarious you just blindly discredit things you don't understand.
If you were to balance your awareness into your whole body, rather than having it dominated with one area, you are basically in a psychedelic state. Because when the crown opens, the light leaks in. The spice brings human beings automatically in touch with this harmonic awareness.
Anyway, that's the way I see it. A system is no more true than it is false. It is merely a reflection you can work with if you choose to see it their way and incorporate it into your own understanding.
