I would just like to send a special message to everyone. My dad had a heart attack just a little while ago and this is the first time that i have been able to write about it. It was only caused by smoking cigarettes, it really was the most scary and terrifying moment of my life time stood still when i first heard the news.

He ended up having a triple bypass surgery on his heart and it was one of the most awful and hectic things i have ever had to witness. He is recovering nicely and his whole perspective on life has now changed, he has stopped smoking and he is trying to be as healthy as possible...I just wanted to make this post as i wouldn't want this to happen to anyone, i hope that if you smoke or if anyone of your loved ones smoke please do everything in your power to help them stop...

Cigarettes are very harmful they shouldn't even be legal in my opinion...

I hope that this message can help even just one person to prevent a similar tragedy...

That's bad news, and strong of you to share it. Glad to hear he is recovering well.

I'm 3 months in with no roll ups, so I hope I never go back to them for the exact reasons you have said. Your message can only help Smile

I am sorry about your father however an adult should have the right to put any substance into there body they want even plutonium if they wish. It is their body and their right. What would making tobacco products illegal accomplish? People would still smoke and in fact it would likely be more dangerous as one would lose the quality control over the industry same reason why drugs are more dangerous now than they were in the 1900's. Not to mention the crime, corruption....availability to children... By controlling these things with restrictions we can control them as effectively as possible, prohibiting them is paramount to a complete loss of all control and power.

The substances are not to blame it is the people who abuse them (who do so regardless of the law).

That said we should make sure people have access to truthful information and the risks/benefits of these substances. Taxes should be used for future research and education. Safer alternatives could be developed and marketed. But never should any substance or behavior that does not physically harm another individual be made illegal.

Prohibition does not deter use and only damages society.

Chin up, my sister.

My Father-in-law had a heart attack several years ago, luckily surgery was not required.

He also quit smoking and drinking (alcohol) and has been a lot healthier for the past years.

Now if only my dumb-ass brother-in-law would learn from his example.

All my best wishes, OF

I do see where you are coming from my friend, but when i say i think they should be illegal i am just making a point as alcohol and cigarettes do so much damage and harm to our society they have all sorts of dangerous chemicals in them but they are made freely available. The cigarette tycoons are just as bad as the oil and drug companies, they make a profit from doing harm on so many levels. Its interesting how things that are harmful are freely available within our society but something as positive and healing as entheogens are heavily regulated i just think that the system is completely distorted and it doesn't make any sense to me...

Chin is up, thank you my friend. I'm so sorry to hear about your father in law. He is really lucky that he didn't have to go through the surgery, is not an easy thing to watch someone you love so dearly go through. Wow good to hear that he quit smoking and drinking, that's really positive. I hope that he stays well and healthy...Indeed i hope to that your brother in law realizes the harm that cigarettes as well as alcohol cause. Thank you so much for the supportive words...

my father died from cancer directly associated with smoking 2 packs a day for 40+ years.

my mother went a year later from emphyzema after smoking even longer.

i hate cigarettes with a passion....

that being said, i think that most who smoke simply do not understand what they are doing to themselves. i, like bufoman, agree that making tobacco illegal is pointless. it just saddens me to see people do that to themselves, then angers me that they can't KEEP it to themselves....

cigarettes truly do suck.

sending much love and support to your father for a quick convalescence with no complications!

Glad he survived certainly a terrifying experience for anyone and their loved ones. 3 out of 4 of SWIMs grandparents most likely died early from smoking their entire lives. Then again one of SWIMs uncles just had triple bypass surgery and never smoked at all so who knows. Either way be safe be healthy and avoid tobacco addiction.

Aegle,

Thank you for sharing this sister! It is an important message. My heart and thoughts are with you and your father. Sounds like it was a kind of hell, but he came out the other side with a new lease on life.

Good luck to your dad, Aegle!

Such a strange synchronicity: only 15 minutes ago I was told a dear friend had died. I held her hand a few days ago, even then she was almost gone and couldn't talk anymore. A long story... her smoking and drinking didn't outright kill her but it certainly didn't help...

I hope your dad is getting better.

I agree that these products do a lot of damage and it is frustrating that products significantly less harmful are banned while these are available. However cigarettes and ethanol are heavily regulated by the government whereas "illicit drugs" like entheogens are NOT regulated at all. The lack of regulation is where much of the problems arrise for both the user and society. Never the less there are inherent dangers to certain actions, these should be researched and the results made freely and widely available such that people can make their own informed decisions.

I'm so so sorry my friend... Smoking cigarettes is such a harmful habit that's for sure, I know making it illegal to smoke wont change anything but my point is that so many other things which are no where near as harmful or aren't harmful at all are completely controlled and heavily prohibited. It really doesn't make much sense to me the way in which things work in our society today. People are making money and huge profits from something which causes cancer as well as death where is the sanity in that...

My father is recovering well and now he sees why i try so hard to be healthy as life is precious but also very fragile and it can be taken away from you in an instant. Something that shocked me deeply was when i was at the hospital, there were people being discharged after their heart surgeries and they would light up a cigarette as they were being wheeled out the doors. I think that's complete and utter madness, no self love i guess...

Thank you for the kind words my friend it really means a lot...

Thank you he is recovering well, I completely agree that people should make their own informed decisions. It just really saddens me that harmful substances are made so freely available within our society and non-harmful entheogens are so heavily regulated...It really doesn't make much sense, i guess we are all far easier to control if we are a sick and suffering society...if we all had open and free minds from entheogens as a collective community, there would be no regulating and controlling an open minded and questioning society...

All the best to your father's new life.
Funny how non-smoker can't stand smokers. Know yourself, Help yourself, Only you can. Then again let's not fight the misfits of smoked cigarets but help anyone who wish to stop doing it.

Cigs are something I only consider when really drunk but I help my GF to stop with no medication from the beginning of our relationship (10 months ago). For the little story, I happened to be heavily bemushroomed and had a downright cosmic journey really harsh to what was going on in our human's life. Some of the strong manifestations were SEEING clearly that the benefits of smoking tobacco as we westerners do (I did't feel the same while smoking sacred tobacco during sweat lodge) are nearly existant while the harm is HUGE. Psylocibe actually healed me from my smoking habit without making me unable to smoke if I really feel like occasionnaly (which is pretty handy).
Everyone has his tecnics but I choose "toxins" that causes good healing as well.

It is a life changer to stop, so welcome to your father, in the temple of his body! Courage to You, Aegle !
Smell like tea n,n spirit !

Toke the toke, and walk the walk !
