Why not just get food grade d-limonene and not worry about it??? You should not put a price on your health. Once you're dead, you're dead, and no amount of money can save you then.

But what's the real risk 69Ron? Like Narmz said, we all use non food-grade substances like naptha, heptane, garden lime, etc.. don't those pose similar risks of causing harm? Yet i've never heard of anybody being harmed from any of it. Shouldn't people who use naphtha be worried too then? For me, this AAA chemical supplier seems like a great deal. Nowhere else can I find 1 gallon of limonene for $20, and that means alot for me. I'm really strapped for cash now, and those $20 mean the difference between whether i make changa or not..

Take the risk on your health if you like. No one is stopping you.

I would never take the option of using a non-food grade substance if a food grade one was available. I value my health more than I value my money.

Okay, fair deal.

Out of curiousities sake though, do you purify the technical grade substances you use?

There are occasions when SWIM uses technical grade solvents. They are very rare, and he always distills them before use. That at least gets rid of solids and non distillable impurities. He only uses such technical grade solvents if the MSDS says the purity level is 99.99%, otherwise he doesn’t use them. That purity level is very high, and if there are any harmful contaminants they are less that 0.01%. But because they are not food grade, USP grade, or ACS grade, there is no real guarantee that the MSDS is accurate for every batch you get.

It’s always better to use food grade. Always.

I believe you would just need to set up a distillation apparatus and distill it...I might have to do this someday if I keep using limonene.

Not quite; you have no reason to believe that distilling your limonene will remove any of the contaminants, right?

Which are the contaminants you're after to remove? Do they co-distil with limonene? Limonene has a high boiling point often other stuff co-distils with it.

Distillation of limo will definitely leave non-volatiles and high boiling point contaminants behind but not everything. Distillation is not a silver bullet to clean solvents!

Here is the MSDS for AAA Chemicals limonene. Perhaps someone more intelligent than me can determine the finer details.
Let me know if posting the MSDS is innapropriate.

The MSDS says it is 100% citrus terpenes. They mention that d-limonene in general is GRAS, and that they pack their d-limonene in food grade containers. But they don’t mention that their d-limonene itself is food grade.

It looks good. I only wish they stated it was food grade. Maybe I missed something in the PDF that stated it. I’ll have a second look.

It says technical grade but also says 100% limonene. Seeing that Florida Chemical only makes citrus terpenes I'd assume even if they didn't clean their exipment it shouldn't have toxic contaminations.

I wonder if the supplier is wondering why they're suddenly getting a glut of emails from addresses like SpiceIsTruth420@hushmail Laughing

An aside: TEV, your name and sig are awesome. One of the best albums of all time, hands down!
