It's a great price, but it doesn't say its food grade d-limonene. There is technical grade d-limonene that isn't good for you. Theirs might be technical grade.

Does that mean it is at least 95% limonene?

It actually says it's both. Confused

"THE Natural Cleaner!!

d-Limonene is the major component of the oil extracted from citrus rind. When citrus fruits are juiced, the oil is pressed out of the rind. This oil is separated from the juice, and distilled to recover certain flavor and fragrance compounds. The bulk of the oil is left behind and collected. This is food grade d-Limonene. After the juicing process, the peels are conveyed to a steam extractor. This extracts more of the oil from the peel. When the steam is condensed, a layer of oil floats on the surface of the condensed water. This is technical grade d-Limonene."

Check it out. It says that under each one.

Actually it does not say both food grade and technical grade. It says that the juiced orange peels are distilled to give the food grade fraction and the leftover juiced orange peels are steamed to get the last bits out and this is the technical grade.

This is similar to olive oil. Olives are pressed to make the olive oil which is food grade and the used pulp is also washed with solvents to get out the traces, then the solvent is evaporated or distilled to give technical grade olive oil (I think it is called pomace olive oil but I may be wrong in that)

I misread it too because I didn't read the whole thing. So which one is it?

They are a good company, my friend uses them for lye. This thread should probably be in the supplier section.

It doesn't seem to say - or it is not clear from their website. They may very well supply both varieties, the food grade as an essential oil for use in soaps, scents etc and the technical grade for industrial cleaning, degreasers etc.

If anyone is willing to by will have to ask them via email for the msds of their product. They do not have the msds for limo in their website but they are required to supply it upon demand to prospective customers.

Looks like a fantastic price, however their shipping is by UPS, so shipping to Canada would involve brokerage feesMad

I bet it's technical grade and that's why they don't say what grade it actually is. It might make you very sick if you ingested some.

SWIM has used it for both MHRB and San Pedro. The label says technical grade. Before he got it he looked into it and found that the difference is very slight. He didn't have any adverse effects of the product produced.

Here is the difference...
"There are two main grades of d'Limonene which are called food grade and technical grade. When citrus fruits are juiced, the oil is extracted out of the rind. The juice is separated from the oil and the oil is distilled to recover certain flavor and fragrance compounds. This is called food grade d-limonene which is 96% to 97% pure and has a mild orange aroma. After the juicing process, the peels are taken to a steam extractor. More oil is extracted from the peel. When the steam is condensed, a layer of oil floats on the surface of the condensed water. This is called technical grade d'Limonene which is 95% pure and has a strong orange aroma. Both products are called orange terpenes. Both are kosher-certified. Food grade d'Limonene is usually used for consumer products and technical grade is used for industrial products"

Is his option, he would definitely be using again, the price can't be beat.

Technical grade is still steam distilled, what impurities make you sick? My friend buys the cheaper of the two from greenterpine, is that considered tecnichal grade? No sickness from that but my friend makes sure non is in final product.

As far as I'm aware the term food grade doesn't really imply a more pure product, but that the impurities that are present are not toxic, at least at a reasonablr amount.

I've had food grade limonene that was 90% and it was horrible for extractions, so the only other type I had access to was a technical grade and that was pretty good stuff.

All of the grades they sell are FOOD SAFE. That is according to their website. They don't have "technical grade" really. It's all edible.

True "technical grade" should not be considered edible.

That depends. Does the plant also process BENZENE using the same equipment and not wash their equipment? It is possible.

That's what "Technical Grade" allows. Ok. Anything that says "Technical Grade" could be processed at a plant that also processes all kinds of toxic crap using the same equipment. That's the difference.

True "Technical Grade" can be steam distilled, but then pass through equipment that was just used to handle benzene or all sorts of other nasty solvents. They are not required to clean anything because it's not considered edible.

Someone could take a piss in a large vat of solvent and still sell it as “Technical Grade” and that would be 100% legal. Not so if it is food or USP grade. That is why technical grade is cheaper. You can make super clean technical grade and then put it in a non-food safe plastic container that leaches all sorts of toxins into the solvent and that is 100% legal.

Technical grade basically means ANYTHING GOES. It can be dirty as all hell, contain all kinds of toxic crap, be processed in a plant that processes deadly poisons, be put into unwashed toxic non-food grade plastic containers, and could have had dead flies sitting in it before it was filtered, etc. It is not something you really want to use for anything you plan to ingest.

If you're cleaning things with stuff that had at one time had dead flies in it that were filtered out, that's fine, who cares, but would you ingest something like that?
