i'm pretty creative, and have friends who are very talented...together we can cut, weld and form metal...steel, alluminum....we can cut and blow glass...have a tap and die kit...and could even machine origional parts...i want to make a vacuume system to dry solvent...could anybody point me in the right direction?

its very easy... here's a very simple example:

https://www.dmt-nexus.me....aspx?g=posts&t=2414

as for improvements you can make, better a glass or ceramic funnel instead, and better in the shape of a buchner funnel, if you know what that is.. Make sure all the parts (like the tubing) are of a material that will not be eaten by the solvent or whatever you are using...

and post back if you do something Smile

that's a design for a buchnar fitlter...a vacuume funnel...i'm talking about solvent evaporation under a vaccume...as i supose that many know things boil at much lower temps in a vacuume at a much faster rate

MY PLAN!

ingredients,
9X13 pyrex cassarole dish
10X14x3/4" MDF board
10.5X14.5 rubber mat, something spongy but closed cell so it seals well
1/4 drill bit (and a drill!)
Vacuum pump and adapter for 1/4" hole(i have an automotive mity-vac kit that has many adapters)
some good rubber to wood glue

1.) using a sharp object CUT a 1/4 hole in your rubber mat, i think the middle would be best but shouldnt really matter

2.) glue your rubber to one side of the plywood, make sure everthing is nice and even, set some big heavy books or something on it to make sure its EVEN!

3.) drill 1/4 hole (or whatever size for the vacuum adapter you have) where the hole you cut in the rubber is. you precut the rubber because drill bits suck at making nice holes in rubber!

4.) attach your adapter to the plywood rubber. the adapter needs to seal tightly to the RUBBER on what will be the inside of this and have a hose fitting that will extend to the OUTSIDE so you can attach your vacuum pump.

5.) put the rubber side onto the pyrex, hook your vacuum pump up and see what happens!

Questions i have about this since i havent done it yet,

1.) what will happen to freebase dmt if put under a vacuum? (not that i am or ever have extracted dmt! thats illegal!!)
2.) what amount of vacuum will different solvents boil at?

if you do this before i do, please let me know the answers to that! if i do it first ill certainly post back!

thanks so much...that's what i've been looking for...my question is will a shop vac be able to support the vacuume(nature abhores a vaccume)or would it burn the moter...how mant measures of mercury could i acheive?...guess it calls for an experiment...again thanx!

swim would NOT use a vacuum cleaner, as you will be inevitably be sucking extremely flammable solvent fumes into an electric motor. potential for explosion wouldn't be worth the risk. buy a vacuum pump. i think you can get a plain ol handheld one at sears for cheap

heres a quick link to one from there.

in theory as long as you have a tight leakproof seal against the dish you shouldnt need a constant vacuum source (like a vacuum cleaner) just pull your vacuum with pump and let it hold. that pump even has a gauge on it to tell how much vacuum you're pulling!

yea you are right, I hadnt read the thread properly Embarrased I use the vacuum cleaner for vacuum source when filtering non-flammable liquids, or before limo came up, I used it a couple of times for small amounts of ice cold naphtha when drying crystals from freeze precip, but anything else would be too dangerous

thanks....i'll be sure not to use an electric pump...that had already occured to me as that i have a professional buchner filter i think i can just adapt it

would this aquarium pump modification be dangerous for filtering solvents? http://www.instructables.com/id/Quick-Vacuum-Pump/

should work, and should be less likely of any problems, BUT it states it only achieves 8-10" vacuum and i gotta feeling you're going to want more than that as it seems not much happens with most products until closer to 16-18+ i feel that not much will happen until a strong vacuum is made (25-28"Pleased

tax return coming soon, so pretty soon uncle sam will be paying for my experiment Smile
