Anyone else get pretty significant neurochemical sideffects from DMT? Why am I even trying to trip? Options

I haven't even been able to take a full single hit (nndmt vape pen) but both sessions with my attempts have totally shifted my intrinsic reward systems for an entire day or a two. Found myself much more reliant on external dopamine and serotonin boosts. It has also disrupted my sleep patterns, and altered how my shroom microdoses worked (was much more irritated and obsessive with my thoughts)

In addition to intrusive thoughts popping in throughout the week after trying DMT. I normally don't get them at all, unless I had a decent amount of abuse, then I have some intrusive thoughts to work through as I work back up my self esteem.

After my second session (about a week apart) I was quite stimulated, not in a hyper way, just was not able to fall asleep, this session was a little more intense than the first, since I took two inhales (no holding in) versus my first session's single inhale and brief hold.

I am wary of trying DMT again, and having a more effective result...I seem to have a pretty sizeable adverse side effect to quite minor sub-trip experiences.

I was hoping to tap into a waking dream, or rapid daydream, or new learning experiences that would benefit me...but I'm already seeing my body telling me noooo. Even during the brief second attempt the rapidly increasing body sensation was not comfortable, took my by surprise, and during I said wheeew not really looking to try that again...but it only lasted about 1 minute...

Why do you trip with DMT? Do any of you have negative side effects after a single trip? not even due to the trip itself, but the way it temporarily alters nervous and neural network stimulation?

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

What other drugs or medications are you taking other than the ones listed above, if any? I'm wondering if it's some sort of interaction that might be causing this experience.

Your body's automatic response is normal. My heart always pounds when I'm approaching the spice. When you make up your mind, your body (which sort of has a mind of its own) will catch up sooner or later. It tends to happen a short period of trips after the first.

It's hard for me to say why I do this anymore, I've been at it for a while. My rationale has changed as my relationship with it has evolved. I guess the simplest way to say it is that it benefits me, is a tool that allows me to work on myself in a variety of ways, sources me, and fascinates me. I feel like for me to explain it in the way that I mean it I'd have to utter some hyperspace guttural speak that I experienced in journeys passed. But, you'd likely not understand it at all, so what would be the point Laughing

What if the "truth" is: the "truth" is indescernible/unknowable/nonexistent? Then the closest we get is through being true to and with ourselves.

Please feel free to talk about your experiences, I don't have much reference for what DMT really does for people. Just like basic descriptions from a handful of people. One of which says he has a very unpleasant trip, but coming back into his body and going through what he learned about himself is a net gain for himself

If you felt more significant side effects, would you still say your experience with DMT in your trips is worth it?

Because right now I am only experiencing brief, neutral/unpleasant things, at sizeable expense. I didn't even mention the mild lung discomfort.

VirginLungs,

Welcome to the Nexus and thank you for sharing such an interesting post.

I am sorry you are experiencing what you consider to be adverse after effects of your DMT experiments.

Did you get any visuals?

Why do I do this? I started doing this in 2009 because I was going crazy and experiencing a terrible midlife crisis and deep burn out in my 40s. I remember doing psychedelics in my 20s and had always been interested in DMT. And then I stumbled across the Entheogen Review and it led to Noman's DMT for the Masses extraction TEK and it also led me here to the Nexus.

Suddenly my life was filled with a type of novelty and astonishment that I hadn't experienced since childhood if ever. The burnout was gone. The joie de vivre was back.

DMT has shown me a level of beauty inside my own mind that I did not know was possible.

After a few more experiences I had a classical mystical experience although at the time I didn't have the language to understand what had happened. To this day I feel that experience has fundamentally changed me, my relationship towards life and my view of death. For the better.

For various reasons in 2016 I took a 7 year break from chemicals but now I'm in my mid 50s and I remember always thinking that DMT felt like good practice for death and that's why I wanted to come back to it. Most of my family is dead and my husband and I can definitely see the yawning grave ahead. That and I have some anger issues I've been working on.

I think reasons for DMT use will be as diverse as DMT users.

I want to reassure you that what you were describing as negative effects are in fact known as the body load. It is part of the DMT experience. Your body does feel strange, heavy, disconnected. If you get enough in to you you may actually lose touch with your body which can be rather disconcerting.

All I can say is you don't think about breathing when you sleep and you don't think about the Kreb's cycle when you digest. Trust the body. It knows what it's doing even if you're not there.

DMT is a very safe drug. The key is an extreme kind of letting go - abject surrender. DMT expects nothing less and rewards well. I am a leaf on the wind. See how I soar!

Again, welcome Very happy.

If you want a more "comfortable" effect, try doing what i do, and use Changa. Basically what i do is i mix my Harmalas and DMT together, i'll take a few puffs of it and get that initial come up intensity and then i'll put the pipe down for like a couple minutes and wait for the initial intensity to calm down and pass, and then i continue smoking, doing it that way, you get the intensity out of the way and can then just smoke away on it like one would Cannabis and work their way up into it, it's much warmer, more comfortable, smoother, and ime more welcoming that way. So for you with the vape pen, i'd recommend trying out smoking some freebased Harmalas like on top of some Caapi leaf maybe, get yourself Harmala'd up first, and then try taking your hits from your DMT vape, let the initial intensity come and go, and then once the quick come up is passed just take some more hits and work your way into it. It's far less terrifying and just as beneficial if not more so this way, imo.
