I love TED lectures, and thanks for posting FE.
It is a FACT, that westerners all eat more than our bodies require. We maintain an unbalanced diet. We eat too much meat, fats, sugars and additives.
Moral of the story, if you maintain a healthy weight range for your height and eat a balanced diet, you WILL live longer and have a better QUALITY of life in your later years.

What we eat TOTALLY impacts our consciousness. It is important to eat for the body, and very important to eat for the brain.

The body concentrates vitamin C around the brain 100x the normal concentration of vitamin C around the rest of the body [I can't get over this fact--and its implications!]. Fruit is extremely vital to the brain. The RDA is set at a paltry 45mg, but our closest relatives in the wild eat several GRAMS, through fruit, in a day. (Yes, some of them also eat insects and occasionally animals in some cases, but the mainstay of the diet is fruit. Vegetarian or not, eat your fruit, dammit! Razz)

Pastas have opiate-like compounds, dairy has caseo-morphines (no wonder I used to hit the Ben and Jerry's when upset).

After I quit eating processed food, I realized how they were directly responsible for a large part of the anxiety problems I used to have.

Breads have opiate compounds as well..and so people really like breads..and if its white bread its even worse..and those opiates in the bread also slow down proper digestion by the way they act on the digestive muscles..

Another thing is oils...peanut oil is a big one..peanut butter is NOT GOOD FOR HUMANS!.not the way they make it here anyway..

They roast the peanuts here..and when they are roasted the peanut oils undergo a conversion and end up as something not properly metabolized by the human digestive system..this is why there are sooooo many peanut allergies..and it causes all sorts of asthma like symptoms..

I think there are some place in asia where they have restrictions against roasting the peanuts like we do here..and they have not nearly the % of peanut allergy cases there..

Alot of vegeatarians eat soy as well..which also is not properly metabolized by humans..

from where is this info you said that soy is not properly metabolized by humans, fractal?

as for food, im pretty confident I have a very good veggie diet. Like for example in a typical day I might eat:

breakfast:

vitamin mix of 4 or 5 fruits (depend on season, for example lately its been banana, apple, pear and kiwi) in the mixer together with grinded linseed
3 slices or so of home made wholewheat bread, some with organic cheese and others with home-made chickpea spread. In the last month I havent but I used to always add sprouts on top of the breads

lunch:

Lentils with potato and carrots
mix of quinoa and integral rice
bowl of salad

dinner:

Brocoli and colliflower soup


snacks between the meals:
bowl of organic yoghurt and muesli
muesli bar
a bit of 85 or 90% dark chocolate

There's practically no salt in my food (only the little bit in the water that is boiled for the rice or lentils, for example, but I dont add more salt to food), and sugar only the naturally present in the fruits (or the small amount in the dark chocolate)

When I was a kid and teenager I used to eat very bad.. Loads of fastfood and sweet stuff... Then I started taking psychedelics and they shown me how eating is so important. Nowadays I eat the way I do in an effortless manner, in the sense that I dont desire or even cannot stand too sweet stuff, or refined carbohydrates or so on.. I really think the healthy organic stuff tastes soooo much better and feels so much better.

oh and, exercise is so important! eating good coupled with regular exercise really makes one feel soooo much better!

ummm, my diet sux compared to some here, although I do try and eat alot of fruit and veg.

Morning, coffee with either cereal or a cheese and tomato roll.

Lunch, sandwich of some sort or a salad

Dinner normaly involves meat, chicken or beef, with rice, vegetables or a salad. I have a thing for salads, cucumber, tomato, onion. Stews I love too, so if I have the time il make one of them.

Sunday roasts also play a big part in my diet.

Cherries, strawberries, watermellons, apples, berries of all sorts are some of my fav. I have cut down my salt intake drastically. I used to use way too much of the stuff.

So thats my diet, I consider myself healthy, I could do more excersise, but I feel happy with my eating habits.

doesnt sound too bad to me, gammagore.. You eat a billion times better than a lot of people I know, with all this salad and veggies and fruits.. Btw, the fact that you eat little for lunch, is it because you are working and have no time for it?

I eat the same things as you do Endlessness, I love lentils, qinoa and rice as base for a veggie meal.
I like some fish too.
I like diversity in vegs and try to do some swimming and sweating to keep the natural feelgood input !
It's true that doing ethnobotanicals and psychedelics on a regular basis make you so sensitive to your lifestyle.

endlessness, yes, I work in an airport, so eating is a little difficult. We have a staff canteen that costs an arm and a leg to buy food, and I prefer not to eat their shitty fatty food. I always feel terrible after I eat there. Otherwise there is just junk food around. I suppose im just a bit lazy to make some nice greek salad for work, but then again im not too fond of sitting and eating my lunch next to tourists waiting for their gate to come up.

Also I work shifts sometimes, so one day im eating dinner at 6pm with my wife, and then the next day il be eating dinner at like 10pm, just as she is about to go to bed.

yeah I like fish too, but I eat quite rarely (also because I cook for myself and dont know how to cook some nice fish, gotta learn sometime), and when I do I try to eat some sustainably-caught fish. I was always a sucker for japanese food, expensive but so damn tasty! but after reading loads of negative things about salmon and tuna unsustainable farming and fishing, i've been avoiding it.

they look like a brain, and they are good for the brainSmile (as long as they are not roasted)

interesting about the high concentration of vit c around the brain.

roasting nuts alters the efa profile for the worst.
flour isnt great either- even if its og. it clogs the colon.

a raw diet mainly of fruit and nuts and veg is prob best, but soooo hard to stick with!

I would like it if you look at that clip, the ending is especialy poignant, it for me shows the right attitude towards food.

I've been teased many times about how difficult I find it to eat vegetables, and most are for me just unthinkable to consume.

My breakfast is a bighandfull of berries, like blueberries, blackberres, strawberries..usually sliced up apple, organic hemp seeds, organic flax seeds, flax oil, coconut milk..and spring water all blended together..and either green tea or yerba mate..I cut out coffee completely now..sometimes some organic rey bread..

Lunch it depends..I make lots of lentil and vegeatble soups..and i add sage and peppermint and yarrow and anything else i can find in the garden or my herb canintet..i usually add a tea spoon from an aya brew and 2 chopped up salvia divinorum leaves as well..some currey and tiny bit of salt..
some organic rye bread..

for dinner I usually hve some soup as well and then some plain salmon maybe 3 nights a week..I just cut out all other meats again and have no intention of going back..sometimes i will make another shake the same as I did for breakfast with my dinner as well..

I drink spring water as much as possible that I personally collect..sometimes iget lazy for a day when i run out though and wait till the next day to go to the woods to get more..

I drink lots of green tea and yerba mate all day..and cacao tea as well..and maybe 2 glasses of juice..and eat plain unsalted nuts here and there.

I think im going to cut out the rye bread now..or try to..I feel like breads in any form arent the healthiest thing to be eating..I eat quinoa and millet from time to time, and Im allergic torice..so il prob just take the time to cook those 2 instead of eating the rye bread..Even though its organic rye bread..its still more yeasty and processed..quinoa and millet are much healthier..

I take vitamines as well..and ayahuasca ceremonies are now a weekly thing for me and I have no intention of stopping that..I dont do daily micro doses anymore(well aside from that teaspoon I add to a whole pot of soup)..just one full ceremony every 7th night..

I skimboard alot but not enough lately since its winter and my ankle is just feeling good again now since i messed it up..and i used to jog alot in the woods so i need to get back into that and i mountain bike but not every day, which i should..at least when i dont skimboard..
and yoga..i started doing yoga again since i started working with ayahuasca on a regualer basis.

The past month or two I've changed my diet completely. I thought I'd been eating healthy with the sandwiches and cereals and stuff, sometimes with junk added here or there. Eventually I started researching more on what I was putting in me. Now I'm mostly running on fruits, veggies, nuts, some other things, the occasional meat, and i feel 100 times better in all aspects. You are what you eat

I normaly just flour the fillet of fish, fry in a little oil and maybe pop under the grill for a few minutes(depending on size). A little freshly squeezed lemon just as you are abut to serve and thats a nice piece of fish cooked.

Another way to cook a piece of fish is, Make a little parcel/boat out of foil, shinny side inside, fill with chopped tomato or tomato purree, some onion and maybe a few olives and the fish ofcourse and pop into the over for 20 min or so, or until fish flakes apart when you poke with a fork. The same foil method can be used with fish, some lemon juice and dill.

Yep - agree with that! Another really tasty and easy one for pretty much any fish is some chopped red chillies, fresh chopped ginger, a tiny bit of garlic and some fresh coriander. Very happy

Sounds like you live in a lovely place Fractal - not much chance of gathering spring water from anywhere within walking distance of me.

I have a pretty balanced diet, but love a binge on some chocolate every now and then. I exercise hard every day though, so I get away with most of it!

no offense bro but these websites are hardly trustable imo.. typical health claims that you find everywhere, of all sorts.. I was thinking more if you know of some trustable published reports about it. Yeah sure soy might have this or that substance that injecting in huge quantities in rats have this or that effect, but this is worlds of difference from affirming that reasonable consumption of soy will cause health problems to humans in vivo ..

Each one for his own, of course, if one feels that soy is unhealthy, dont eat it.. I never thought of soy as a miracle food, that would be just the other side of these wild health claims around, that goes in fashions (you know, like, tomatos are bad, tomatos are good, coffee is bad, coffee is good... ).. I think anybody expecting to get all their health issues solved by having a diet mainly based on any one particular food source is making a mistake. But I feel very confident that eating my organic non-GM soy occasionally, as a part of a balanced varied diet, will not cause any problem.
