When I first started doing pharmahuasca, my ritual would be to swallow my harmalas and spice and then lay down with my eyes closed in a dark bedroom with a blindfold. Withing 30 minutes I would usually be in a world of dancing fractals and bright landscapes that folded and unfolded in a beautiful circus-like atmosphere. After about an hour of this it would get too crazy and I would get up and venture into the living room where I'd listen to music and mess around for the rest of the trip.
For the past four months, I lay in the bedroom after ingesting and get almost no visuals anymore. In the past 110mg of spice would create gorgeous close eyed scenes, now 125mg does nothing. During my trip, if I have a heavy dose of caapi the world is beautiful but I can't get back to that vivid closed eyed place. My trips are becoming more mental and less visual.
I think my mind unconsciously ignores the visual disturbances that these chemicals cause. As time goes on, the chaos is minimized and poor me is left with fractal-less trips.
Anyone have similar experiences or any input?

It is not your time, embrace it. They shall return once you learn what it is trying to show you. The fractals are merely one lesson of the great spice. Step forward into your cave. That's right. You're going deeper into your cave. And you're going to find, your power animal...
Imagine your pain as a white ball of healing light. It moves over your body, healing you. Now keep this going, remember to breathe, and step forward through the backdoor of the room. Where does it lead?

I don't know about DMT, but I had this same effect with LSD. First time: breathtaking visuals, full 3D immersion. On subsequent occasions: nothing.
The intensity is still there, but my sense faculties are not taken over any more.
I developed four theories for why this is so:
1. Weak acid
2. My brain changed (the ability to hallucinate was somehow killed off)
3. I have to learn how to integrate that which I found inside on the first trip into my everyday life (connecting Heaven and Earth)
4. Fear: I'm afraid to lose control in such a way again, so "out there" it was
I came to prefer 3 and 4.

These are interesting ideas, Cellux. Shrooms, cactus, and oral DMT no longer make me hallucinate. Even high doses of cubes (5+ grams) don't do it. I think it is 2 and maybe 4 for me.

Are you using ANY other psycadelics? LSD, research chems, mushrooms, MDMA??? They all cause a tolerance to DMT and can cause a loss of visual activity while keeping the mental effects. You also may be building up some strange tolerance, or your eating habits may have changed (there is a hypothesis that those that eat junk food have more MAO's thus needing a larger dose of MAOIs). Oral DMT is a VERY finicky thing. Sometimes I need 3-4 times what others need, sometimes I need less. Time of day, what you've eaten in the past week or so, how healthy you are all play a part. The Spice extends life The Spice expands consciousness The Spice is vital for space travel ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Never underestimate the power of STUFF!

I don't know SWIM and personally don't trust him at all. If SWIM is posting, most likely I will not respond...as I said, I don't trust the guy. YOU I trust, but never SWIM.

Would that come from your body protecting itself from all the junk in the junk? Like youre immune system kicking in? If so, maybe youre body creates more mao's expecting a huge increase in dmt?

I have been using oral DMT almost exclusively for a few months. I have a had a shroom and cactus trip during that time, but all trips are always stretched at least a week apart. Maybe I do have a tolerance, except that for the past three weeks I haven't done anything. It's strange though, I don't get visuals on shrooms even if I take five grams + of cubes. It' a total mental trip. My drug history is bare except for a bunch of LSD fifteen years ago and the use plant hallucinogens from about a year and a half ago. I don't smoke weed or drink either. Maybe I am just a hardhead. Well if all else fails, smoked DMT is completely immersive but I wouldn't call what that does a visual - that is a rocket ship to another damn place.

This is an interesting idea. I do like my junk food, but I am sure lots of people here eat unhealthy and still have colorful and vivid trips. My trips are intense, just not colorful. i wonder if MAOI's have any effect on visuals.

Maybe it isnt what you want because all that you are looking for are visuals. Ever since I discovered DMT It was always kind of clear that the visuals were a distraction to the real lessons. I see this as case of just trying to get your rocks off and it doesn't appear to be cooperating. Maybe some intent might help. More and More it is a disappointment to see people just acting as if they own this thing. Like a whining because it isn't what it used to be. Fuck get over it , it isn't digging the way you are treating it. Maybe it is time to reevaluate what you actually would like to achieve taking these substances. have you ever taken that ferry from San Francisco to Berkeley and looked back and seen that while in Berkeley, San Francisco doesn't exist?

It must be a great burden to be the judge of others and their experiences with spice Nodice. I sure am glad I'm not you. Way to much responsibility. Pokey the Relieved

Pokey the Relieved I can see how you might take it as me being Judgmental Pokey. I just keep thinking about The shaman who spends a good 2 years of his life in solitude brewing and drinking this sacred substance daily. I wonder what he would think about this guys dilemma or his ritual for that matter. Now if you knew me at all you would come to find that I am a pretty humble person and dont really cast judgment the way you claim I do but some of these posts really do try my patience though. Maybe I am wrong but I just spoke an honest opinion. have you ever taken that ferry from San Francisco to Berkeley and looked back and seen that while in Berkeley, San Francisco doesn't exist?

I kinda agree with nodice on this one. Though I see where you're coming from Pokey. Step forward into your cave. That's right. You're going deeper into your cave. And you're going to find, your power animal...

Seems to me you are looking for pretty colors man. Maybe it is time to reevaluate what you actually would like to achieve taking these substances. I have to say that a personal ritual can be as extravagant or as plain as one wants it. The purpose, to me and others I know, of a ritual is to establish a pattern that one follows over and over to help achieve a certain state. For me it's a few days of eating as healthy as I can, abstaining from orgasm, meditating 30minutes 2x days, taking an entire day to brew my Aya using mapacho to cleanse the area and the brew, and the day of eating a very light breakfast and preparing our space for the ceremony. Now this was a ritual that was built up over a year. At first my ritual was VERY simple, eat light the day of the ceremony and write down my intent on a piece of paper...that was it. So to criticize another's ritual because it is not detailed and long just doesn't seem right. I do agree that it could be better. May I suggest going over to the Ayahuasca forums and seeing what some others rituals are, and especially read about the Currandero's rituals (native Peru/Brazil dieta's and preparation of the brew). I think a lot can be gained from reading about the traditional rituals. Traditionally Ayahusaca is about healing. Not about spiritual insight, not about visuals, not even about having a "good" experience. Most of my most healing experiences were far too powerful for me to wrap my head around...and not all of them had strong visuals. If you go INTO the experience after some deep self reflection you may find that the brew can do a lot for you. Sometimes during a ceremony things will be exposed that I was unaware of.... Aya has always worked with me to help me resolve some of the physical, mental, and spiritual issues. I can promise you that listening to music and watching TV will block out Mama Caapi's subtle messages. If possible have your ceremony OUTSIDE. If not, try to have plants nearby. Open your window if it's not too distracting. Please leave off the radio and TV...do that on a mushroom trip or something. In fact, to be honest, I try and abstain from TV and radio a few days prior to my ceremony...pointless chatter I also try and stay away from. It actually makes a giant difference. I feel clear and receptive. The after effects also last longer if you dieta (food mainly)....After the ceremony my friend usually cooks up a steak and some veggies on the grill and we break our fast. The Spice extends life The Spice expands consciousness The Spice is vital for space travel ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Never underestimate the power of STUFF!

That is an ignorant, elitist, and insulting post. Just because I don't engage in your version of the holy sacrament makes my experience less valid, pure, and transformative? Would it suit you if I were wearing a loincloth, lit some incense, and chanted? The visuals are an integral part of the psychedelic experience along with the euphoria, the pain, the ego death, and the unification of the universe. Read some of my pharmahuasca trip reports and gauge the depth and the nature of my trips, they are philosophical journeys deep into my very being. These trips are intense psychological traumas that help shape my self-identity. Your post was the rudest comment anyone ever made to me on this forum. Your use of the word "fuck" belongs in the playground and your condescending tone should be directed inwards. Go play on Shroomery.

I have read books where traditional ayahuasqueros where interviewed and stated that they dont have visions when they drink ayahuasca..they just feel energies and work with it that way. Long live the unwoke.

I don't think anyone who has followed your posts, joebono, doubts your commitment or authenticity. I agree that even if nodice intended to advise, the attitude comes off as spiteful and ignorant. PK Dick is to LSD as HP Lovecraft is to Mushrooms
