Hey everyone,

SWIM is about to begin extraction of MHRB. Before I address his question though, I would just like to say that I am very happy that I found this community forum! It is full of extremely useful information, is well organized, and more importantly seems to have a certain atmosphere that is both pleasant and mature, which I very much appreciate! Smile

I was wondering if someone could help answer a question SWIM has regarding the ratio of water to pre-powdered MHRB, or perhaps direct me to a relevant post that I may have overlooked. SWIM is going to be using the Lazyman's STB Tek for his extraction. It is the general consensus that for every 1 gram of MHRB, 15ml of water must be used. However, I've heard people mention through various posts that when the root bark is pre-powdered, much more water must be used. Is this true, and if it is, what would the new ratio be?

Any answers would be welcome!

And remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

I used 3 litres of water for a 500g extraction and that was enough to yield 7g of DMT so I think the whole you need 15ml/g is massively excessive, I used pre powdered as well.

You might want to give a look at Noman's Tek too.
Noman's Tek

It is essentially the same as lazyman's with the difference being a freeze precipitation at the end, and ALOT more detail.
He suggests 1.5-2x the water normally used (22-30mL).

I'm giving the tek a try this weekend am planning on using 25mL per gram. This is just based on it being an easy number though.

I'm interested in more thoughts on this as well...

I have had no problems with the 15ml/g ratio with PP. I think you just need to make sure that your mix isn't too thick and has a decent pH (>13) - a thicker mix seems to make your pulling solvent less efficient plus along with a lower pH causes more chance of an emulsion forming.

However a side by side comparison of various ratios would soon clear it up - using the 1g/1g/15ml ratio as a standard baseline.

SWIM is doing this today with Noman's Tek.
He only has an iphone but the pictures should be OK.

Never done a STB with less/more water but have reduced the lye, with no emulsions and had the usual yield.

Maybe soft/ hard water has an impact. What type of water are you using?
