pH down will work, but is pricey compared to muriatic acid. They've got it at lowes and home depot and the like, you shouldn't have to go to a pool shop.

I found pH down that has phosphoric acid and nitric acid. Is nitric acid safe?

No! It's a reactive strong oxidizer and can give off toxic fumes.

Diluted sulfuric acid would be OK though, it's non-volatile. PH-down that contains sodium bisulfate NaHSO4 should be good, this behaves like dilute sulfuric acid.
