So......
Last night, I prepared a 500mg quid of virola theiodora and a gram of virola calophylla on seperate plates. Both were freebased with 6% sodium carbonate and left to dry for an hour or two.
The theiodora quid was placed under my tongue for approx. 10mins. For those of you who haven't tasted or smelled this resin, it suggests nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves but reminds me of the smell in a dentists. It wasn't unpleasant but it started to burn a little after about seven minutes so I perservered and at the 10 minute mark I washed the quid down with some orange juice. A further 10-15 minutes later I began to feel a slight body buzz but maintained mental clarity, it felt rather nice but nothing spectacular and the effects were gone within another 10 minutes with no nausea or after effects. Overall it was pretty disappointing.
The hint of an effect suggested that I didn't properly hold the quid sublingually and probably scuppered my own efforts to maintain control of my saliva. Basically the lack of effect was probably down to ineffective technique so it's probably my own fault.
I loaded up my home-made bong with approx 200mg of the freebased virola calophylla and hit it in one major blast. The smoke was gentle, pleasent and inoffensive. I held the hit for over 30 seconds and felt a very minor perceptual shift, phospenes appeared in my peripheral vision but no other visual activity was noted. Mentally, I felt a slight 'stoning' effect and entered a very mild trance-like state for about one minute or so but nothing noteworthy. I also noticed very slight changes in sound but, again, nothing noteworthy. The trance state was probably more to do with me trying to observe the effects internally as it felt similar to auto-hypnosis experiments I've done in the past. I hit the bong again, two large blasts of around 200mg held for over 30 seconds each.......zilch. Nothing. Nowt. Nada. Same stoning effect, similar focus of concentration but nothing visual, nothing mental and no insights of any sort.
I also experience no CEV's whatsoever, OEV's consisted of phospenes in the peripheral vision but I think this had more to do with holding my breath than anything else. Again, disappointing.
About an hour later, I insufflated the remaining 500-600mg of the calophylla snuff - It burned a little, made my eyes water, and took about three big snorts to finish the pile I had left. Again, not entirely unpleasant but I quite like insufflation for a lot of substances, even when it burns like hell. Mentally, the same stoning effect was felt but nothing else other than a slight feeling of drowsiness which was probably more due to the fact it was around 1am.
So, my conclusions? I made an arse of the sublingual method and only have myself to blame for that. I'll be experimenting further with this method as I think it COULD work for me in the way 69ron states. As for the smoked freebase and the insufflated version, I don't know. It may be that I didn't correctly freebase the resins or I may have an incredibly high tolerance to these substances. Further experiments will clarify this as I have about two grammes of each resin left anyway.
Any advice from anyone on this? I'd be interested to hear your own experiences if you have any, whether they're good, bad or ineffective.
