So what is everyone's opinion on promoting with facebook? I have a page ready for the foundation, but I wanted to get others opinion on the idea before making anything public. Plus some help on what should be included in our organization overview, mission, etc. I figured for now keep it brief but informative. If we already have a ton of fans watching before a website or anything takes off then once it does everyone knows at once... maybe allowing open discussions on the page is the way to get the ball rolling with the public? Although closely monitored so it is kept professional and about our cause and not a place to come and support getting high. Just a thought. If everyone hates the idea I can easily delete it. Let me know what you guys think.

I say: Not yet.
Why? I don't like Facebook and we are still not ready. We haven't even decided the name or the objectives.

That is just my opinion brother.

Oh, it is way too early to promote us to the general public! We don't even have a name yet. Please have patience, in the meantime you can help out with the formation of the organization - there is plenty to do!

I completely agree that specific details need to be decided upon and clear goals defined, but that is kind of what I meant about wanting to include our statement and other relevant info. Sorry if I was not clear about my intentions. I kind of wanted to see if I could get a bit of a structured discussion going about these decisions. I just noticed the addition to the wiki though and that is exactly what I had in mind. Just new to the nexus and hadn't even thought to look in there. Oops.

whether we personally like social networking sites is besides the point.

when managed properly this could be another great medium to spread our message and gather public support.

when the time is right I think we should go the whole 9 yards...facebook, myspace, twitter, bebo.

we should utilise and use such things to our advantageWink

MAPS and psychadelic.org have facebook pages, with around 7000 members between them, lots of interesting posts and debates, events etc; so it's a useful way to get information out there. Good thought, foreversearching, but I agree, we're not ready yet.

i don't like facebook either.

authorities tend to monitor it very closely for potential criminal activities. even the suggestion of partaking in C-I compounds is suspect on such a networking site.

Im the same dont like it, apparantly when you register and put photos up they then become the legal property to do what they like. I read a story of this happening to a couple and a friend seen their pics on a dating site, to advertise the site, the couple didnt put them their so it had to be facebook selling them, the couple thought that was funny but I dont. Just seems like a big data mining excercise to keep and eye on folks, well shady!

Also not a fan of facebook.

I read a report where some company was sponsoring this girl as she was off work with depression and they happened upon a picture of her on facebook smiling, so they cancelled the sponsorship. Obviously that's a shitty diagnosis, but it's just an example of how these social networking sites can play to a disadvantage.

foreversearching welcome to the team!!!

No matter our feelings on FB, i'm sure in time it will need to become an inevitability.....

In the meantime, Hack AWAY at the "TO DO LIST!" Hell, feel free to become a manager of it and fill things in!

act boldly and we will not fail! Keep up the bold questions. This goes for everyone.

Very happy

I could make that site into a good working forum and administrate it if you want?

Feedback please.

I like the idea of using Facebook as an outlet for trying to inform the masses because it could really bring a lot of attention, but I do believe that before the page is created we need to define our objectives and the details of it in order to have an informative and effective page.

The issue with me is that when you join a facebook group everyone knows who you are who your friends are and pretty much everything. You might as well post your name and location here on the site as it is essentially public knowledge. Then there is the issue with facebook constantly changing it's privacy policy so that it can sell your information to companies.
