SWIM has tried poppy seed tea and codeine both once and they produced very similar effects:
Subtle Sedation
Pounding headache
Terrible nausea.

Now SWIM is fine with that. Just means he'll never ever be addicted to heroin. (not that he was worried at all before)

But he is a very curious guy and erowid doesn't really have a list of effects and he can't empathize with the effects at all, for example watching Pulp Fiction or watching some ibogaine movie focused on addicts.

He has a little idea of what the withdrawl symptoms are, but not the actual drug symptoms.

So just to have an idea could some one be kind enough to spell out the effects?

That allergic reaction doesn't sound all that bad, and in fact, doesn't really sound like an allergic reaction at all. It honestly sounds like too much codeine/morphine.

However if it is an allergic reaction:

For some reason people can be allergic to some opiates but not others.

Poppyseed tea is very unpredictable but poppies do produce small amounts of codeine, so if you are allergic to codeine you will probably have a similar reaction to poppy tea (seed or pods).

You can give them a quick boil to destroy the codeine, as heat will degrade codeine very quickly.

Also be aware that poppies have a host of alkaloids in them, Thebaine, Narcotine, Papaervine (sp), morphine, and codeine to name just a few. Any of these can produce a reaction if you are allergic to it.

Be glad, Heroin is a rough thing to be hooked on....

If you shoot it, you instantly get this really warm feeling, a warm rush. It runs up into your brain quickly and you get a strong euphoria, and your head feels as though it is pillowed by warmth. Your body becomes extremely relaxed, this is why addicts often slur their words and nod off. There is a indescribable tingling that is what I feel is at the heart of the addiction, it is the sweet cherry on top, felt in the upper body/head area. It's a hard thing to describe, much harder than psychedelics, because in contrast to psychedelics, the trip is often accompanied by a decrease in external input/stimuli, so instead of heightening your senses, they are to some degree deadened (though things often feel very nice, your body has a warm-fuzzy buzz to it).

nausea is inherent to mu-opioid agonists,
but the other side-effects, such as headaches, are from thebaine.. a stimulant.

itchiness is another side effect from said agonists, because histamine signaling is also triggered. taking an antihistamine relieves this side-effect, and would quell nausea in the process.
