Well, firstly i don't think john oliver speaks on behalf of western civilization as a whole. But secondly, i don't find the video to be that hatefull.

It does express outrage for sure. But, as we've already seen before, covid-19 has become an unnessecarily politicized topic. The occasional expression of outrage is an almost inavoidable consequence of that.

Outrage is a dimension of political and social communication in almost every civilization.
The BJP in india deploys the sentiment, as well as the FPR in rwanda, the AKP in turkey, the ANC in south africa, the DPP in taiwan, the jiyuminshuto party in japan, the CCP in china, etc.

Ultimately we'll all have to surrender ourselves to what the universe has planned for us. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't "rage against the dying of the light". That is all part, and i would say intention, of being alive as well.

I used to listen to Joe Rogan; if only because I was interested in DMT, but his stupidity turned me off. This is not recent. It's been about two years now.

I agree. He just had has Hamilton on again, and it seems to be getting worse. There are just points where I am really interested in what HM is saying and Joe is just unable to continue the conversation any further without turning it into a HM monologue, which is frustrating. But I try to not look down on him for his education being less than that of a chemist, director, and journalist. He has still helped me realize a lot of things about the way I communicate and the way I live. I just try to take him at face value. There is still value in small nuggets from time to time, but they are becoming fewer and far between.

A good rule of thumb in my opinion (which is apropos as Joe Rogan's head looks exactly like one...) is that anyone who feels compelled to bitch about the plight and oppression of straight white men is seriously in need of historical context (as well as an ass beatin' and a bucket o' feces tossed in their smug, thumb-like faces).

This seems silly to explain. That is a criticism of the fantasy, Ramma is not wanting to watch anyone be beaten. You are voting on who should beat someone because they deserve it, and responding to someone who wants to watch.

Seems silly to have to enlighten you to the idea of humor, which is what my response was couched in along with societal observation. I can't speak for Bill, but doubt how serious he may have been in regards to Joe Rogan getting his ass beat.

Maybe I am cynical (about this) after the opening and closing of the politics subforum.

Bill has done a spectacular job of making a 3D model of a naked, charred Trump being spit roasted over coals. Detailed modelling of the blood smeared over the skewer after being impaled through his body. A swastika carved into his belly. Surrounded by statues of middle fingers pointed at his corpse. To be clear: this is easily available to view (currently, anyways).

I think there's reasonable chance Bill has a little hatred in his heart, and wouldn't mind seeing Joe be beaten.

I don't think you're necessarily cynical and hadn't thought that in any way. I think maybe you're passionate about certain topics as well as acceptable behaviors on the Nexus.

I agree with you in his phenomenal art work. I think he would perhaps be very passionate as well.

And while I think your observation is valid, I can't speak for him.

As for myself, I was definitely kidding. I may not like Joe really, but if I walked through a door and he was behind me walking towards the same door, I'd hold it for him. If I was out and about and saw him on the street in some sort of distress, I'd help him. But the general idea of a certain kind of person whooping his ass, is still funny to me. I don't necessarily want that as a reality though.
