Hi all,

I'm no stranger to psychedelics, especially DMT, but I've always had to source my psychedelics from... not me. I've made a handful of attempts at extractions and growing entheogenic plants to essentially no success. I know this forum is built at least partially around the idea of self-sufficiency, and I've certainly found a plethora of information here that should enable me to effectuate that self-sufficiency.

Something I'd like to hear specifically, though, is how people around here who are self-sufficient got started. Which plants did you start with, what teks did you start with, etc?

Also, do you all have any specific advice for someone just getting started on this path? Particularly, if you were getting started again now, how exactly would you go about doing it?

DMT is a favorite of mine, but I've been a fan of every psychedelic I've tried to date, so I'm curious to hear if anyone thinks that starting with something like cacti or morning glory might be a better introduction to entheogenic gardening.

And I guess since it's probably relevant, I'm in hardiness zone 6, but would probably be doing most of my gardening in pots that could be overwintered indoors.

Live plants. Sustainable, ethically sourced, native American owned.

Congratulations! Taking a big step.

Plantwise, the only entheogen I grow (outside of my job) is San Pedro. Sits in a pot in my room.

I do also grow mushrooms. If I had to start again, I'd have more confidence and be less neurotic lmao. I'd also get a little more research in, but I'm one who can't get enough detail about stuff. I started out with a cake tek and now am onto my first mini-tub. If starting out again, I'd go for it with the tub.

Tekwise for extraction, I started out with Max Ion, and have become loyal to it. I've tried a few others, but that one works the best and is the most therapeutic for me.

There are many others a lot further along than I that will likely chime in, such as a certain individual with "vibes of the shaman." 😉

One love

San Pedro was one of the few attempts I've made so far at growing, and I'm probably going to take another shot at it simply because of how much of a joy it was to grow. I only stopped because I lost all my plants when I accidentally left them outside during a freeze...it was an absolute heartbreaker to me.

I've been extremely tempted to take a shot at mushrooms, but the additional legal exposure with them makes me paranoid enough that I've never bothered.

Thanks for your input, and I can't wait to hear what others have to say!

Essentially, what Voidmatrix says - but I would always encourage people to get their cacti outside during the warmer months. Here in zone 7 Europe, my Trichs stay out from May to October. In November they get a roof and then walls get added in January along with extra insulation for the proper cold spells. By mid-April the walls come off and mid-May is the time for them to come out from under the roof. San Pedro are mountain cacti, so wind, rain, sun - and fog - are all things they rather enjoy. You should be able to dig up quite a few hints and tips for better growing if you look in the cactus section.

Shroom growing is also highly rewarding but for me, the sheer simplicity of cactus growing wins. The great thing cactus (apart from mescaline) is there's no obligation to harvest it at any point and It'll just carry on getting bigger. The only exception to this is if stems get knocked over by an unexpected frost but even then they can just be chopped off and dried or stuck in the freezer. Below -6°C is when this seems to happen.

As far as DMT goes, Desmanthus species may yet prove to be a reliable source plant for your hardiness zone.

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."

Big grin I love the introduction! Aside from long-term cannabis cultivator, I am just at the beginning of my journey, and am still in the growth stage as opposed to the (extr)action phase of things, and I am in no way shape or form an expert, as most of my endeavors are truly an experiment at all times.

When I get an idea into my head, I dive in head first. So I started with 20 something varieties of different plants, cacti, and fungus', both entheogenic, oneirogenic, and some only mildly psychoactive, if at all. I believe the first thing I had to pop from soil was Calea z. "dream herb", morning glory, Syrian rue, Mimosa hostilis, E. nongravatense (Javanese Coca) and Illinois Bundleflower (D. illinoisis). As well as many more. I also am still making attempts at several seeds that have been stubborn, as entheogens do not always make it easy on you.

BE PATIENT! Much of the varieties of entheogen, especially some of the most interesting ones, have very long germination times coupled with low viability rates. Also, some seeds are barely, or only viable fresh; Akuamma and Voacanga are two of these plants. If I started over, I would have much more knowledge on what germinates better under different circumstances, so I would not have to play the numbers as much as I had previously. Although if you are unsure, there is no shame in playing the numbers.

Cacti are fun to grow, and require very little attention (which is difficult sometimes if you have a busy mind), mushrooms are great, but I notice that contamination is a real battle, so make sure that you inoculate double what you hope to accomplish for your first try.

Desmanthus Illinoises does well outdoors all the way down to 5 hardiness, so this is for sure a good go if you are looking to do DMT containing without having to hook up lights in your house.

For a more comprehensive look at the way I do things, (again, I am just a hobbyist who is experimenting, I am not an expert) https://www.dmt-nexus.me...;t=96506&find=unread is my log with weekly updates and Lots of photos. I am actually behind right now, I have been working overtime the last 2 weeks and barely have had time to keep up with watering everything, let alone take photos and articulate a post. I will get to that tomorrow, on my off day.

Many blessings, and the best of luck on your journey. If you ever have any questions, I will always do my best to answer anything that I can.
May we continue to be blessed
