When it comes to biology, organic chemistry, biophysics, biosynthesis, (clandestine) chemistry… if you are a layperson, it all looks like some unexplainable dance of atoms & molecules. So it did to me, it all looked like a bunch of some alchemy-like wonders of nature.

So I chose to study and learn about these biological sciences. As I started to understand the world of science a bit more, a lot of things began to make sense and become more & more logical. Almost a pure scientific reductionistic material approach. But I fortunately never lost my wonder. When you study these subjects to new depths, it all becomes very complex. A soup of molecules arranged by this strange thing called life. E.G. the rare flowering event of a plant is not just a flowering plant anymore. Now you understand that flowering is triggered by exact biochemical reactions formed overtime over thousands of years of evolution. You start to see the beautiful things the universe has given us with new eyes. It astonishes me even more now. It is like Richard Feynman once said: "If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics.”, I think this principle is very much applicable here. Anyway, you keep learning and studying… biosynthesis, extractions, conversions… all make more sense now. Then you literally read in textbooks how to extract alkaloids from plant material. I kept wondering: with all these DMT, 5-HO-DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, LSA, psilocybin… containing plants and fungi out there, did my whole life actually prepared me for this?

So after a few years of browsing this wonderful forum & experimenting a bit, I finally decided to make myself a new member. Answering some questions in the questionnaire & writing this essay. I also finally took the opportunity of doing an actual extraction myself. I got hold of cebil seeds and wanted to find out if there is potentially some bufotenine in them. I used the simple IPA extraction method from the wiki. I’m still waiting for the results but probably messed up my final evap of the IPA by spilling some water (maybe a lot) from the hot bath in it…

Personally, despite all of the systems used to understand "reality" and existence, there is still (and maybe always will be) endemic mysteries. I too find a certain. Thrill in the research, understanding and engagement that occurs from being involved in the sciences (though my background is philosophy).

Please let us know how your extraction turns out. Have you extracted any DMT? If so, which tek did you use?

What have psychedelics done for you? Both in terms of positives and negatives (if you feel there are any negatives)?
