Hi
I am preparing for an ayahuasca ceremony next weekend.
This will be my second ceremony at home with my wife as a sitter.

Being a daily cannabis user, abstaining from it is the part that is always the most challenging to me.

I had my first three ceremonies in peru and they were wonderful. I was extremely careful with my preparation for this
Adventure and i was off cannabis use for a bit more than a month before.

First ceremony almost nothing happened.

I had an indescribable experience that left me in awe on the second ceremony.

The third one hit me once i was back to my hut after eating a small meal and i spent the night "let's say" travelling between heaven and hell.

Last year three ceremonies in costa rica ... nothing happened... except the extreme purge every time the whole night.
That time i had been smoking cannabis until 2 days before my first ceremony.

First ceremony here at home in december 2020. Made a cappi brew and dosed with dmt 50mg freebase and 80mg caapi extract in coca cola 30 min after drinking the brew.

The brew was 50g caapi boiled 3 times for three hours that i had prepared on the previous weekend.

This time the experience was very gentle. I purged only once after 45 min and i could feel the caapi. But barely no
Dmt visuals. Even after a redose of 50mg caapi extract 40mg dmt an hour in
I had faint closed eye visuals but nothing compared to peru's ceremonies.
( note: i had an apple sauce after the first dose of dmt)

This time i had been off cannabis for two weeks.

I am trying to see if there might be a correlation between frequent cannabis use and being less sensitive to dmt.

I am still in contact with the shaman i spent a moment with in peru and she is firm on the fact that one should abstain for at least three weeks. And that she noticed through her multiple ceremonies that frequent users seem to be less sensitive to the effects of the dmt and also tend to purge more.

What do you guys think?
I know cannabis is part of certain ceremonies in brasil so that leaves me with a bunch of ????

Hi Daaren

For me it doesn´t matter with vaped DMT. I even prefer to be a little high.
But i don´t use cannabis everyday.
Just my two cents

Have a gud one
Psychedelic drugs don´t change you, they don´t change your character,
unless you want to be changed. They enable change. They can´t impose it.

I've had incredibly strong experiences with and without weed and haven't been able to reliably say what it does to change the experience as I've had similar experienced with or without.

One thing I might say is that the experience is a little 'clearer' without weed in the mix

Im so partial to the 2 together. I don't think I would even want to drink aya or mushrooms without cannabis. I have many times, and always found it less potent and profound than with cannabis. To each they're own. My own take on it, is that cannabis in general is not going to dull an ayahuasca or DMT experience. It increases intensity, which some people may not enjoy.

You probly just had stronger brews in the past.

For me personally it depends how much cannabis was smoked, when deeply stoned it does compromise significantly the deems in whatever form taken. A puf is something else.

I can see the reason to clear of other entheogens if one is set out to monitor how a particular plant session feels as an in depth study, that's obvious actually, but generally there's no concern to mix, the cannabis mitigates nausea imho.

Happy trials.

For me, i was a daily Cannabis smoker for 10 years, during my daily/near daily 4 year Aya experimentation i never avoided Cannabis, always smoked before, during and after. For me, Cannabis (or even Delta 8 THC) helps to get things going and working right, it really helps things kick in and they synergize very nicely.

Most often, what people guess is some sort of contraindication between the Aya "spirit" and something they're doing or consuming (whether Cannabis, or sex, or food, salt, sugar, etc) resulting in the Aya not working, is really just DMT not being activated properly. I use Rue and Mimosa/Acacia, i always predose the Rue 30 minutes to an hour before the DMT, i've never had any issues, it's always been consistent dosing, works every time, no problemo.

So my advice, get the MAO-A inhibition right, and get the timing between the MAOI and the DMT right, to ensure that DMT is properly and fully orally activated, and whether you use Cannabis or not, whether you eat a bunch of crap or not, whether you've had sex or not, it doesn't matter, the Aya will work as fully as ever.

I try to point this out to some people in the Aya community every now and then but people are convinced that Aya is so sensitive to things you're doing that it won't work, when really, it's the Aya itself not really working, it's not anything you're doing or not doing. DMT is not orally active without MAO-A inhibition and it requires gut MAO-A to be inhibited by the time the DMT is consumed, therefore it makes perfect sense to predose the MAOI so that gut MAO-A is already fully inhibited when the DMT is consumed, and it'll work perfectly.

And yes, as Jamie said, Cannabis will increase the intensity, visuals, effects, body load, of the Aya or other Psychedelics, it doesn't dull it. Now, you can get too stoned and mentally that can be a bit dulling, but generally Cannabis enhances and intensifies Psychedelics and will not stop them from working, it actually helps things work better.

İ don't smoke cannabis. But I take care to not mix in any other energy on a ceremony day. Eating and having sex effects my experiences profoundly. Any serious healer will tell you that diet is vital in this work, if you care about the quality of the experience beyond being blasted off. Cannabis is a controversial topic and you will have to find your own truth. Make sure to get opinions from sources outside of this forum also.
The consciousness of plants is a constant source of information for medicine, alimentation, and art, and an example of the intelligence and creative imagination of nature. Much of my education I owe to the intelligence of these great teachers. Thus I consider myself to be the “representative” of plants, and for this reason I assert that if they cut down the trees and burn what’s left of the rainforests, it is the same as burning a whole library of books without ever having read them.

First of all thank you all for your inputs.

I do follow the dieta as per recomended including abstaining from sex.
My usage of cannabis helps me slow down. Being a very active person with always something to do it really helps me take a break and also focus my mind ( stop multi tasking).

To my experience it is interesting and beneficial to do some sacrifices when preparing for a ceremony. It really helps putting intention into my process. And also after a moment i get used to it and returning slowly to a somewhat normal life brings a whole new appreciation for what i have. It also serves a some kind of reset for the body. I am generally way more healthy when i stick to the dieta. But those are really personal factors.

For next weekends ceremony i will convert my freebase to salts. Last time the crystals did not properly dissolve and i remember finding some stuck at thr bottom of my cup the day after.

For this part of my exploration i prefer to stick to caapi brew with added caapi extracts at the redose.
I feel doing part brew part extract might feel more natural and also diminishes the "weak brew" cause...

The times i consumed cannabis before vaporizing dmt made the journey just much harder to remember and also less clear.
