I'm doing a Nomans tek

100g powdered mhrb
1.5l water , is this my problem?
105g lye

As I did the first collection jar there was very little of that orange stuff and I avoided to suck it up
working my way around it leaving a thin layer of naptha with the orange stuff.

Made some mistake and sucked up some of the lye/mimosa mix so I thought I just drop it down again and the orange stuff
got worse (see picture)

The jar I collected have been in the freezer over night
had only white snowballs in it, no orangey stuff that i could see

What would happen if some of that orange stuff snuck into my collection jar?
Will a recrystalization get rid of it if any got in there?

There's still a very thin layer of naphta in the big jar, should I suck it out with the orange stuff
with a baster and discard it or is there a better approach?

That stuff looks really contaminated bro.

You might want to dissolve that stuff in warm naptha, in a small glass of some sort, carefully separate the naptha from the orange gunk at the bottom of your glass container into another glass container, make sure you dont suck up any of that orange goo this time.

Then freeze precip that again, you might want to re-x that mess a few times just to be safe.

That stuff is in the big jar on top of the mimosa/lye mix already sitting in a thin layer of naptha.

So maybe I ad some more naptha and suck it all up and put in a smaller container, heating it up
and then suck of as much as possible.

...and then do the freeze preecip and re-x process.

Does that sound right?

Is the first picture of the stew? It's hard to tell what I'm looking at. I think thats what gammagore was referring
to. It almost looks like some really orange goo on a black plate.

The collection jar picture looks plenty clean. I wouldn't worry about purifying those!

how many pulls did you do so far?

always pick up only as much as you are sure you can without sucking the mimosa layer.. leave the last bit, and just add more naphta and make more pulls.. on the last last pull (like maybe after 5 pulls or so), you can suck up the last layer crudely into a thinner container, and then it will be easier to separate it from the bottom layer that came across..

And, you might want to wash your naphtha before freezing if you feel you didnt separate it so cleanly, by mixing the dmt-full naphtha with a dilute sodium carbonate solution.

but yeah you can also recrystalize your stuff to clean it up if you want


btw.. pure salt, loads of it, breaks up emulsions

Your Naphtha jar looks fine.

When you think that everything has precipitated out, seperate the two and dry out your spice. Visually inspect it good. Use a magnifying glass, if there is and dark orange or particulants in it you'll notice it. If you have just a small flek or two you could probaly get it out with a razor blade. You could recystallize once you get more. It doesnt look bad.

The first picture is the stew from the top, the sides of the glass are a little "greasy" so it
was hard to get a good pic. (trying to get a good pic in bad lighting is hard =))

It was the first pull ala 40ml so I got some more to go.


How do you do the salting thing? Pour it in, stir with a glass rod maybe?

yip, that looked like orange goo on a black conatiner of some sort.

Anyway the collection jar looks good.

The emulsion went away today when I added some more naptha and gently tipped it over a couple of times=)

Got my first pull (looking good) re-xing in the freezer and another pull sitting in there aswell.
