According to babbel.com, there are around 7000 languages that exist in the world today. Each of these languages is equally complex. This does not take into account idioglossia (a language only one or two people speak, such as twin speak), glossalalia (speaking in tongues) and who knows how many dialects and dead languages that have come and gone.

Each generation of humans seem to change the language in very subtle ways through slang and playing with words. Look back at english speakers one hundred years ago and you will find they speak very differently than we do today or those from 500 years ago, we are all speaking English but it has changed over time in very subtle ways. Language is so complex, it is constantly evolving and creating one novelty after the next. Each language used today is evolving in this fashion. This is a very complex system of communication. It's amazing! There is a guy named John Austin who can speak and sing fluently backwards. Our minds a geared to use language, we pick up on language very easily as children, absorbing and memorizing something like 2 words a day for 17 years, that is a lot of words, something like 30,000 words. There are over a million words in the english language alone. We are language machines!

This is just a thought experiment about language. I am not sure how to communicate what is on my mind sometimes. I do my best but at times I feel that I am somehow locked in a language prison, limited in how I can express myself within the confines of in this case english. I attempt to describe my DMT experiences and find that when the words fall out of my mouth, they lose the meaning I was trying so hard to achieve. We psychonauts understand what we are describing but not those who have not had such experiences. Have we created another language?

Terrence Mckenna describes the DMT experience very well being the word smith he is, however, something is still lacking. When Terrence talks about jeweled, self dribbling basketballs in hyperspace, it does little to really describe this thing he saw. I get his meaning, I have seem something similar, some transcendental object at the end of time that seems to move in and out of itself revealing the secrets of the universe. It sounds crazy! Jesters, gods, demi-gods, demons, dwarves, elves and etc etc, these are good starting points for communicating what we have seen but it does indicate that what we see and what we perceive do not always translate well into language. Something is lost in translation. I sometimes think it was better for me to have discovered Terrence Mckenna after I had a few experience under my belt, as I feel it could have shaded or hued my descriptions of what I had experienced. I understand what Terrence means by the elves or little people he is attempting to describe, but I would not call them elves or little people. I don't know what to call them and that is my point. We don't have a language for these things.

I have had experiences where I swear I was having full on conversations with something in another language, hyper-spatial language, and when I came back I could not for the life of me remember what was said. It proceeds as follows, I forget me and english, remember this new hyper-spatial language, the effects wane and I forget this hyper-spatial language and then remember myself and the english language. Could you learn this language I wondered? Bring more back from these conversation. I never thought it was such a thing as glossalalia, it was complex, it was not just made up on the spot. I thought it interesting in the movie 'the fifth element', Milla Jovovich used the supreme langauge. It was created by Luc Besson who taught it to Milla and they refined it to 400 words. Big bada boom!

Is there a supreme language or hyper-spatial language? Interesting to think about. I don't think there would be a way to learn this language as I feel that you forget what you are suppose to forget and remember what you are supposed to remember. Can we bend our language? Can we agree to new words and terminologies and meanings to communicate more effectively regarding our psychedelic experiences?

Applying language to these experiences, is as Terrence said, like water on a ducks back, it just rolls off. It's frustrating to me. I wish I could describe these experiences in a better way. I thought maybe learn another language or learning everything I could about linguistics might help. I thought maybe I could start a new language but that seems crazy. I sure would like to hear your thoughts on this topic. I am learning more and more everyday and find that I bounce these ideas in my head and they never have anywhere to go and bounce off to someplace else. Perhaps a discussion on the matter could shed light into what is going on here with language. Have you heard a hyper-spatial language? I am not talking mind melds or telepathy, I mean spoken language.

I will leave it at that for the time being. Super interesting to me, obviously. Just throwing it out there.

I suppose I never considered that some people might experience glossalalia and feel it is meaningless babble at the time of speaking/thinking it.

I've experienced glossalalia on salvia. It was extremely profound and sensible in the moment, but became hilariously meaningless immediately after. A word sounding like "cadavidiver" was of utmost importance.

I've always thought of language as a tool to conceptualize and communicate about external reality. I agree that trying to describe experiences tends to feel like grasping at air.

Thanks for the reply! Wasn't sure what we can even say about it. I might take this as an opportunity to explore language a bit. Maybe post something about language on here from time to time.

I agree with this guy on everything he presented. It applies to the language of DMT. I highly recommend checking out this ted talk. I think you will enjoy it and I feel it also expresses a lot of what I was trying to express. Nice when you find someone that kind of points the right direction!

Perhaps we are not hearing the language of DMT properly due to a vibration difference. Vibratory higher dimensional languages. I thought this video was interesting due to the fact that our brains are perhaps trying to apply predictions and values onto something so unusual that the fills in the blanks of colors and sounds. It's trying to navigate and take in the senses to create a picture of the world. Going inwards and these senses go haywire with no stimuli. The prediction engine reaches out in every direction to find a grasp, like falling from a ladder, creating sounds and colors all it's own. Just throwing it out there.

Just a reference to some of the terminologies psychonauts tend to use when describing our experiences.

https://wiki.dmt-nexus.m...erspace_lexicon#Entities

There are other threads about communication, though I have not seen any that talk directly about language. We are attempting to describe novel ideas with old words. We do the best we can and that is fine. I nod in agreement with most of the Hyperspace Lexicon, take that list to someone who has never heard of DMT and they will have little to no idea what it means. Just right there is a new language.

I think that we evolve with language. We cannot communicate about the world around us to others unless we find the language to do so. Communication breakdowns and miscommunications can certainly cause many problems in the world, in our mind and within the realms of a psychedelic experience. I found that when I attempting to apply descriptors in the midst of having a strong DMT experience that english was ripped away from me, my language now became this utterly useless thing that did not work anymore, completely non-applicable. We assign the language and meaning upon our return, when we are immersed in the experience, languages of this world are DOA when we enter hyperspace.

But something is being communicated. Something is saying something. It is not using language in the sense of how we use it. Are we misinterpreting? There seems to be underlying messages but how do we arrive at these conclusion? Our mind is a prediction machine, it cannot predict anything that happens in hyperspace, all the usual places to find a foot hold are removed. How then to establish communication with footholds?

Singing and humming seem to influence these experiences. Auditory stimulation such as icaros or playing some shpongle can aid in grounding or act as a bridge between the two worlds, I have found. I have heard it said that the shamans when asked about how they learned these icaros songs, they replied "the plants taught us.". Interesting. How did they teach these songs? This is a langauge they are learning from the plants while they are ingesting ayahuasca. They learned this language and sing it to this day. They received a message and communicate back they have received the message with singing.

This may all be gobbity goop nonsense. I keep thinking that we can learn something if we pay attention to language. We cannot evolve any further unless we evolve our language. When I play guitar and am playing from my heart, I feel like I am saying something when I play. It plays pictures in my mind, I feel emotions from notes that vibrate in my ears, others can feel these emotions as well. Go see a really good blues guitarist and you can hear the pain in the music. Perhaps it is the language of music that can help us better establish communication?

Take this for what it is.. ramblings of a confounded individual attempting to make more sense of my experiences. I got a sure message many years ago. It said "Expand you language". I always wondered how and why that message got across. It was like it was sung into my mind. I sometimes get the feeling that we have not evolved more because or language has not evolved. The meanings with assign words and phrases seem to have become static. Can we sing new meanings into existence? How can we evolve language in a way that empowers us all?

I feel like I am talking in circles at this point. Maybe there is no solution to this problem. I think about this a lot. Maybe this conversation is pointless? Maybe there is nothing to be said about it at all? I hope this is not a dead topic that goes nowhere. I personally feel the need to learn more about language and how it is used enable to better understand and communicate about the world around me. As I do so, I see things that I had misinterpreted, ignored, or otherwise completely confused in both waking reality and those experiences I have had in hyperspace. I am learning how our brain uses language and how language has evolved.
