i'm living abroad in Sweden ..... i was at the paint shop today looking for solvents, and i stumbled across a product being marketed as a Bio-naphtha made from canola oil.

i couldn't read most of the the things on the label(my Swedish isn't very good) but the guy in the shop says it can be used the for the same purposes as naphtha.

would it be worth attempting an extraction with this product?
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, if they get upset with you for criticizing them, you will be a mile away and you will have their shoes.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

If you've got MHRB handy, why not try? You can attempt to pull with it and try a freeze precip. If that doesn't work, evap it to see if anything was pulled. And if that fails, your DMT is still in the basified solution and can be pulled out with standard naphtha. As long as it's volatile, you wouldn't be at a loss for trying (except the cost of the product).

Ultimately it might be a more environmentally friendly option. But if you're completely satisfied with your current methods, you could just stick with your current naphtha of choice.

i would be willing to try this - with various oils - as in like the fasw tek.
what oils would be best and what acid should be used.
also this would be nice for mescaline if possible - so suggestions on that front would be awesome.
imagine if one could use canola oil for extractions - that means its available at any supermarket for almost free - and more natural.

...unlike the "blind leading the blind". we are more akin to a group of blind-from-birth people who have all simultaneously been given the gift of sight but have no words or mental processing capabilites to work with this new "gift".

IT IS ONLY TO THE EXTENT THAT WE ARE WILLING TO EXPOSE OURSELVES OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO ANNIHILATION THAT WE DISCOVER THAT PART OF OURSELVES THAT IS INDESTRUCTIBLE.

very interesting. i wonder how they crack/fractionate vegetable oil into these aromatic hydrocarbons.

old world rapeseed may still be a natural commodity, and has been used a lubricant for eons, but C.A.N.O.L.A (Canada oil low acid) is anything but a natural product. it is estimated that ALL canola crops in canada have been contaminated with genetically modified organisims (GMO's) thru cross pollination. Not to mention that after crushing the seed, the remaining oil in the cake is hexane extracted. canola is certainly not an edible product imo, but that isnt what we are talking about, sorry.

using vegetable oils (carbohydrates) as building blocks to create other useful chemicals interests me a lot, even tho most of this technology is a hundred years old, it is all coming back around.

a couple yrs ago, i was using a canola-high oleic base stock motor oil in my car. the company is making all sorts of natural lubricants to replace petro-based stuff. it performed very well.

spiceman, ur new tek is very intriguing as well.

Even canola oil itself could be used as a solvent... just about any natural plant or animal oil will pull freebase dmt..

I believe this is incorrect. Canola oil or certain animal or plant oils are not suitable for extractions. Think about it; they may be able to dissolve dmt, but are not good for extracting or pulling freebase.

Canola oil, vegetable oil, olive oil, tallow, lard etc etc are composed primarily fatty acids. Fatty acids make them hydrophobic as liquids (and thus may be able to dissolve dmt - SWIM never tried if they do actually dissolve it).

Fatty acids are however reactive species. They are acids!!! Mixing fatty acids with bases saponifies them. Try mixing canola oil (or whatever may you oil) with a basic solution and it will start forming flakes (soap). This is how people make soap from oils. KOH, NaOH and even sodium carbonate are strong enough to saponify fatty acids in the oils you suggest.

Have you actually tried "...just about any natural plant or animal oil..." to pull dmt from basic solutions or is it a wild speculation?

To the OP of this post, SWIM believes that as long as canola oil contains fatty acids it is unsuitable for extractions.
