I've wondered how this works and what to do with it.

I extract harmalas from Syrian rue and take that sublingual before smoking enhanced leaf. Or lately, oral harmalas + oral DMT fumarate that I've made myself.

Often if I do a longer trip (2h+) I re-dose DMT through smoking herbs infused with the spice. I've noticed that when doing this I don't get much visuals but can stay in the head/body-space for further amazement/work, BUT I also feel that I get what I think is a dopamine high. This is nice, but also something that has too much of a 'druggy' feeling for me. It makes me wanting to re-dose more until I'm out of herb/spice.

Can anyone relate to this and if so how do you think about it? I'm not really into 'just feeling good', or well, that is nice but it also makes me loose some of the purpose of the psychedelic journey.

Thanks for any thoughts!

I would suggest examining why you think that feeling good through this means is something that you choose to perceive as being indulgent.

How does it make you lose the purpose of your psychedelic journey? Does the euphoria cause you to forget healing or divinatory goals, for example?

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."

I get this too. Sort of a gambler's urge to keep playing long past our alloted budget...

Funny, because I'm usually scared to start an experience.

Anyways, if you don't want to use up your whole stash, just stick it in an envelope, tape it shut, and stick it back in the freezer. The added pain of taking it back out will give you time to reconsider your urge.
I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want a clever signature.

downwardsfromzero That is a good suggestion, thank you. It's absolutely a part of the cake, it's coneccdet to a moral system... But a quite resonable one I think.

It's mostely about, in this case, what you bismillah are writing. The urge to go on, past what you thought of before starting.

The freezer has never really been an option, but we'll see Smile As it has been up untin now, I only make small quantities (with about 60-100mg dmt). This I can take in one session.

But it can be/are many factors. It's always at the end after perhaps 1.5 - 2h, when I dont get really lost in another world when taking more, but keeping the mind 'large', but also this high that makes me crave for more. It could be that the harmalas has stopped working by that time. I take 30-50 mg sublinguial.

Thanks for replying! I've read many of your posts here on the forum over the last year. Great to be 'in touch' now Smile

EDIT.
I forgott to anwer your question downwardsfromzero.
Well it still has purposes, a part of my interest is getting to feel more sides of me/the world. And this is happening, also with this craving and the thoughts around that. This is all good.
I think why I wrote here was more about to hear if someone else also recognized this... and to have thoughts around it like your questions made me have. So thank you again Smile

I'm actually interested in achieving this instead of avoiding it. I realize some people think DMT should only be about the woo, I am all about using it as an entheogen and for mystical experiences. But I feel there is power and utility in what may feel like a more recreational type experiences as well.

I have not yet explored dosing DMT more than two hits in a night, how much per hit and and how often are you smoking through these 2 hour sessions to get to the point where you start feeling like this?

I had a very(entirely) tactile experience when vaporizing DMT at the end of a psilohuasca trip that I wrote about over on the first steps into hyperspace forum. Perhaps it had some kind of a similar etiology as yours, doing DMT at the tail end of an extended period in the psychedelic experience combined with rue somehow changes its character in this way. I would be excited to discover a set of circumstances that could potentially increase the chance of this kind of experience as I found it to be very powerful.

Hello RowRowRowYourBoat!

Well I can't say that I thing there is something inherently bad about using substances for enjoyment and recreation (if they are not hurting you or the world).

I've only done my trips with harmalas, sublingual and now lately more often oral. This makes the difference I think. I have not done higher dosages of harmalas alone so I dont know if it is they who gives this effect sometimes. I take about 175mg extracted harmalas oral or 30-50 mg sublingual and don't feel mush of the effect before I also take the DMT.

I would say that it is sometime passed 1,5 - 2h that it doesn't feel very psychedelic any more. But I'm still in a peculiar and often very good head/body space. The effect then smoking then is what I would guess is more like a heroin high (I'm just guessing here, never done it Smile ) I take around 10-15 mg DMT at each time but I'm sure I'm also burning some since I'm taking it as infused in herbs.

How do you find it very powerful? I might thing that if one is depressed it might spark something, otherwise I mostly see it as a realivly harmless but strong drug-high.

I am not sure I have quite experienced the type of feelings that you have described as of yet, I like to explore all kinds of states and the different characters that a given substance can have. While I greatly enjoy the typical psychedelic experience and cerebral headspace(and I am still learning more about the DMT experience in general). I also try to explore what other kinds of experiences and lessons can be learned even from seemingly not-so-introspective altered states. I find that a genuine, deep appreciation of different experiences, however shallow or in the moment they may appear at first look sometimes reveal deeper messages and insights about the human experience than one would ever expect.

Hearing about the combination of harmalas along with a powerful psychedelic contributing to an experience that has some non-typical elements to it makes me very interested in what kinds of things that kind of a state might eventually reveal to the user. Not only do I feel that harmalas, in my experience, beyond their MAOI potential also lead to kind of relaxing and settling of the mind allowing it to reach sort of mystical or learning states much easier. But sometimes the greatest revelations and appreciations of experiences don't always come from the most serious, directed, introspective situations, sometimes it takes a different kind of situation, mood, attitude, or state of mind to naturally realize that which you had not seen before.

Like the difference between sitting meditation, hatha yoga, and running- different levels of physical experience may all lead to a special state of mind and allow for meaningful experiences. I have had many strong psychedelic experiences, but I have found that sometimes my greatest revelations come from a slightly different primary experience that I would not have first guessed would be where learning was to be found. These types of lessons can sometimes be very subtle and take time to decode their meaning and importance, or sometimes they can plainly appear right in front of you in a very obvious way if the time is right.

Altogether, I am glad you made this post and shared a bit more about your experiences and how you have reached it, I think I will have to explore a bit more with shorter, more traditional dmt experiences before deciding if I shall try to explore or recreate these kinds of states you have seen.
