Is say a electric coffee pot element an appropriate thing to use for accelerated evaporation of solvents, or does the exposure to heat some how harm or evaporate the spice freebase as the solvent is dissipating? what temp. of heat might result in evaporation of spice with the solvent if this was the case? Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see....

A small fan on low blowing across the solvent works wonders.

As to your first question, I dunno, I've never used heat just room temp, fan if ive done a big pull/used a lot of naptha Kazoo... wrote:what temp. of heat might result in evaporation of spice with the solvent if this was the case? At the risk of being a smartass, such evaporation would occur at roughly the temp at which spice vaporizes, i.e. the temp at which you attempt to heat it to when smoking (unless you have the most insane coffee heater known to man, it shouldn't raise your solutions temp anywhere close to this). I'm not sure the actual temp., but freebase spice has a very low melting / vaporizing point. I wouldn't use heat. Have patience! The best results come from SLOW evap. at room temp., or a freeze precip. if you're in a hurry. My evap.'s take up to about a week, no fan or anything. It's worth the wait!

Try not to use any heat source to evap. As pokey said, a small fan is ok, but even better is to freeze precip, and then evap the remaining solvent. All of the above reply's are good advise.

SWIM got beautiful crystals at 80F in a food dehydrator with heptane in a shot glass and within hours, but generally, the slower the evap, the better.

Freeze precipitated after to help keep any oils off the crystals...i couldnt even smoke the crystals, they had to be broken down to fit into any piece Wiki • Attitude • FAQThe Nexian • Nexus Research • The OHTIn New York, we wrote the legal number on our arms in marker...To call a lawyer if we were arrested. alright excellent info guys thanks, guess i should have just asked what the melting/evaporation point of the spice is, and worked from there... swim has always used no heat evaporation techniques and found them to work just fine, but had a warming plate sitting around and wondered about heat issues. liking the food dehydrator idea, have to try that out....
