well it depends on the test. if it was a very general test it may have just tested positive for alkaloids and they assumed was cocaine. i think to be admissable in court they need a secondary test to prove it though, infact im almost positive about that ask your lawyer if you need one. i dont know too much about field tests police use but id image its rather crude.

by the way sorry for the bad news getting busted sucks Sad

Ummmm...wouldn't it be WORSE legally if the powder tested positive for spice?
Any experiences I or SWIM mention have happened only in my nightly dreams.

If he's in the US at least.

Cocaine = Schedule II
DMT = Schedule I

I think google is a lot more likely to know what tests they use off the top of its head than we are.

A quick search told me "The standard field test used in the USA for cocaine is cobalt thiocyanate." (A Field Test Concern). This also looked potentially up your alley: The Color Of Cocaine: The Results Of Field Tests Are Not Alone Sufficient To Prove The Presence Of A Drug Beyond A Reasonable Doubt.

Just remember, if you're in the US, DMT is in a harsher schedule than cocaine.

Any reasonable chemist could argue against any field test like this. Its truly ridiculous to assume that a test done out in the field could be used in court to prove that you had a single chemical compound as complicated as a tropane alkaloid in hand. Without GC/MS, NMR or the like, any analytical chemist could probably come up with some way of beating a colorimetric test.
