Hi Folks.
First a bit of background.
I did a vinegar boil (actually 2 hours in slow cooker) on 50g of dried caapi leaves and then after some serious filtering I precipitated the resulting liquid with lye/sodium carbonate.
Something dropped out of the solution which I did another 2 A/B extractions on.
I ended up with a brownish substance that sat at the bottom of my jar which looked a bit like like frog spawn. I'm sure it was some kind of Alkaloid and not plant material as I filtered it loads when it was dissolved in acid.
I then washed it a lot of times with distilled water allowing it to settle out and removing the water from the top with a siphon each time.
Finally I dried it out and ended up with 400mg of fine brown powder which is shown in the picture. I think the white powder around the rim might be some excess sodium carbonate/lye but i did wash it a lot of times so maybe not.
The question is what is it? Can I do some tests to find out?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
