Thanx for that man! Always looking for valid input to that simultaneous linear equation we call life. We can enter arbitrary values and still reach the same valid conclusion.Smile

What's funny is that a few years ago, SWIM's living room looked and sounded like his shows now (RGB Strobe, lobit and lofi music blaring, everyone on...well something). SWIM does things a bit differently now, but he still has a soft spot for those times.

By the way Dan Deacon shows are incredibly therapeutic and fun. Do not pass up a chance to attend.

One thing I enjoy about the music I've posted is that it transcends the stereotypes of modern psychedelic music and is more reminiscent of the psychedelic rock of old, in spirit. These kids (using the term loosely and endearingly) are plenty aware of the such topics as are discussed on this site, and represent a generation of artists with sense enough to vigorously tackle the postmodern condition, at least in their artistic endeavors. These kids are hip--whether you consider that to their discredit or not--but I recall an era where the term 'hip' had very positive connotations; I hope we're not too far lost in a pomo haze to leave off the trend toward (ironic) doublespeak and learn to enjoy bleeding edge of subcultural aesthetic in our times.

Anyway, glad you guys enjoy! I'll be posting more later.

I just recently heard Animal Collective for the first time. I call them a mix between Pink Floyd and the Beach Boys haha. But they're great to listen to while tripping. I actually feel like I need an expanded consciousness to fully experience them. They have so much going on at once, that my sober brain isn't very partial to them.
He led a double life. Did that make him a liar? He did not feel a liar. He was a man of two truths. - Murdoch, Dame [Jean] Iris

Kartikay is a character role that I play when I feel like escaping reality. Nothing I say under the pseudonym "Kartikay" reflects any of my actual life or personal history.

Funny you should mention The Beach Boys, because I believe that one of the members (Panda Bear) considers them to be a great influence. Especially check out their older stuff: "Here Comes the Indian," "Campfire Songs," "Feels," "Sung Tongs."

SWIM's experience of music has been merging lately. It used to be that he had his trip music and his sober music, but now they greatly overlap, and that probably began when he started listening to Animal Collective a few years back.

This is a Panda Bear song being performed by the whole band:

Great links! I love this kind of thing, I am left with a sense of wonder and bewilderment, but well entertained. That Acid Ranger one is brilliant! I rekon it'd scare the hell out of me if I was tripping though!

Some of it reminds me of Chrome Hoof, who I saw live once:

If you like music that is different, disturbing and brilliant, then consider going to All Tomorrows Parties Festival (if in UK), it's ace. I think they do something in the US as well??

haha they are very odd. I looked up gang of four & really liked it! Sounds a bit like the Pixies crossed with The Jam or The Rakes or something. Thanks!

I just realized that Chrome Hoof reminded me of a cross between Of Montreal and Gang of Four.

This is Of Montreal, but these videos don't convey what I was referring to, necessarily--and are slightly off of what I intended to convey with this thread, honestly--but they're my favorite songs of their's:

Yeah, sorry, your thread went off on a bit of a tangent, but I'm enjoying it!

Of Montreal - A man bursts forth onto stage in black fishnet stockings and green leather pixie boots - wahahahahah!! Absolutely love it. Great stuff, you know your tunes amor, feel free to send me some more suggestions anytime!!

You would LOVE All Tomorrow Parties BTW, it is very hip (to its credit)

I'd like to pitch a band that has roots close to me, Portugal the Man:

The first time I tried acid I saw The Books in concert, they had a projector playing behind them with videos they had collected and retooled to synch up perfectly with their music. They make everything from their basement, the cd or dvd you get, comes from their basement. These are some of those videos.

That first one was filthy, filthy fun.

That second one was Jodorowsky in space.

Love it!

The Books are fun, and their work is quite impressive. Many of my friends are into them, I've never really taken the time to adequately review their work.
