First off, let me thank everyone here for letting me join this inspiring community of free-thinkers.

I consider myself a student of everything related to psychopharmacology and am always eager to learn more about this field.

I am interested in how humans interact and use mind-altering plants and chemicals and how they can be used to benefit us and enrich our lives.

I'm especially interested in serotonergic hallucinogens and entactogens, and in the basic science behind their pharmacology. More and more research suggests that these substances could have tremendous benefits in the treatment of many psychiatric conditions, and the question of how to develop such compounds into safe medications as tools for psychotherapy is something I spend a lot of time thinking about. Understanding their structure-activity relationships, in order to find candidates that maximize therapeutic potential, while reducing unwanted side-effects seems key for this. While having the potential to help many people medically, it is also my hope that by incorporating these substances into mainstream medicin will help to improve the public perception and acceptance of these drugs in general.

On a social level, I'm also interested in harm-reduction and education so that everyone can make informed choices about venturing into these realms. I neither condone nor condemn what I view as a matter of personal choice, but I strongly believe that honest and reliable information is key. Sites like the Nexus do just that, and I am grateful that it exists.

It's very encouraging to see how everyone here, in their own way, is contributing to moving things in a good direction. I'm hopefully optimistic about the future.

Don't forget a golden rule in that case: deduction. Check this out Albertchemist check it out..

Even at the highest level, we need to frame the questions we're asking and deduce the wrong answers till we have nothing but a relevant answer, pertainent one even Wink

Even if you are a top rated pharmacologist you still need to frame you're questions well, I'm nothing but a broke ex deli-boy from Walmart but by framing all the questions in this kind of convention we make it happen

Welcome Love welcome Thumbs up welcome Drool welcome Cool welcome Pleased welcome Wink welcome Laughing welcome Smile welcome Very happy welcome Big grin welcome welcome welcome!

Anyone is welcome, please join the Nexus if you haven't and think that you would give it a chance to be a part of an international community like this! we're the best, dw documentary should make a whole online tour of our websites best features in my opinion

[p.s. for lurkers/guests i think you gotta do that on Saturdays and Sundays I think? because that's the days that allows for an influx of new members; it would overload our hard working mods who would then have a lot of responsibility to work with, more than would be if we planned a specific time and day to work and allow people to come here, it lets us sort and organize and it helps the people behind the scenes]
So they're saying I can't call it Almondmilk, it has to be "Almond juice" or "Almond beverage" and I'm like "don't have a cow man"

I'd say though that more importantly we need to understand that people attack the social status of drug use.. we're basically estimating someone's value in life based on their social status and has roots in power struggles like war and imperialism and industrialization and capitalism- when we hit that part of the world it changed course coming with pros and cons

Welcome, Albertchemist!
Are you an actual chemist by profession?

This is one of the reasons I came here too. The more I read about it, the more inappropriate it seems to me to schedule these drugs as having no beneficial value to society even at the level of basic research. It may still be too early to make them available as over the counter medicine, but clearly they have demonstrated therapeutic value.

I understand that a lot of serotonergic hallucinogens have a very similar structure. Is anything know in more detail about the relationship between these structures and their pharmacology? What are your own thoughts about this?

Best,
bfp

I'm definitely not a high rated pharmacologist. I just like psychopharmacology.

You're absolutely right though, formulating your questions correctly and clearly is key, otherwise you won't even know what you get an answer to.
