Is this bad? Experienced growers please advise.

It’s an off colored fuzz. Just to the right of the abort.

I am growing lionsmane, and i sometimes get green stuff as well. It's bad news.
Make sure you have some uncontaminated mycelium left so you can start over.

That looks like bruised mycelium possibly from drying out. It's blue right?

Agree looks like bruising from dehydration.

Xt- It looks grey to me, but I am colorblind, so I never trust my judgement. I asked my wife and she said “not really grey, but not white”(which I clearly knew it was white lol). But I found a second cake with a similar patch on it, so I removed them both.

Maybe give em a light mist if they're looking dry.

They are fine, just blueing from the cake drying out..

IT is common when growing shrooms for the myeclium to produce fuzzy mycelium at the base of fruits, other than the, it just looks like blueing from drying out or bruising...

I would not worry, segregate them to be on the safe side, but everything should be ok Smile

keep us posted Smile

That fuzz doesn't look much different to the other fuzz spots on the same cakes. Maybe not enough FAE?

The fruit in the first pic I'd probably remove, unless it's supposed to have that color.

That fruit is one of two APE cakes in the tub. The rest are treasure coast. So it does look different from the rest of the fruit in the tub.

They are all pics of different cakes. The last one are weird yellowish “sweat” drops coming out.

The so-called "mycopiss" is a fairly normal phenomenon Smile

They look fine to me but i aint no pro looks like a bit of brusing in the first, maybe from direct misting, the blue cluster seems to be an abort, if it is its better to remove them before they rot and ruin the cake, fluffy myc looks like the rest of the cake so im guessing its ok, and if the drops are yellow they are antibacterial metabolites, if they're brownish it could be wet bubble desease, i cant really tell the color from that pic.

Here’s another question.

These are albino penis envy. Has anyone had them come out like this before? Should the dark ones be removed? Other than color, they look healthy and normal.

Looks normal to me, that strain does produce some total freaks. Expect a lot of sooty caps on APE as you can see. Also those knobbly parts (pic 1 in post #10) I have seen on cube cakes before. They are quite like sclerotia and often stain heavily when cut.

Thanks Orion. You put my concerns to rest. This is my first try with this strain, and everything looked different than normal from the start. That knob thing did turn out to be a sclerotia. It was very dense when I picked it off, and super blue. Boy are the PEs slow growing. I’m already getting fruit from my second flush on the rest of the cakes.

I am surprised to see you’re still doing cakes MM.........

Any variety of PE successful on cakes is definitely a mastery badge, time to go bulk my friend!

Twisted Evil

Haven’t done APE specifically but knowing the inconsistency in PE fruits and multitude of environmental factors I would say just trust your nose and the feel of the fruit body, when they’re bad you will know, and photos won’t truly capture the issue.

Probably was a ‘blob’ not sclerotia, but common for PE especially in the first flush. Potent and dense, be safe!

Thanks syn. My first try with the apes was with rye jars for a bulk grow, but they all got contaminated during a grain to grain transfer. So it dropped my confidence, and I went back to cakes. Trying another bulk with some mazas right now. Just inoculated the jars last night. I think I’m gonna skip the g2g this time since I really don’t have a full proof way to prevent contams. The pes were definitely a whole other kind of creature. I remember you saying they are almost a novelty, which I’m starting to agree with. They may be more potent, but I’ve gotten 2 flushes of the rest to 1 of the pes. They are slow growing. But I look forward to trying them.

Yeah they are a challenge, fun for that aspect but if you really just want results (psilocybin) they’re probably not the most efficient means of acquiring........but the other end of the spectrum is if your really tight in your clean game And have patience you get a lot more potency and some monster fruits to show off 🍄
