Sunnyside, that's more what I expect to see. Is it pretty easy to pick out? There's a ton of light pollution here, I don't have my hopes up. I'm just always up at dawn anyway...
I am in the city here, so at 3am I drove out into the desert, merely an hour, to get away from the light pollution.
Venus was dominant, but hazed over, so I knew it was a longshot.
That actually might be your bellwether - if you can see Venus pretty well, you should have a chance, I guess.
I scanned with naked-eyes, no luck, but put on the binoculars, and sure enough, there's a fuzzy tail. Even through the wispy clouds.
I'm glad I saw it, and I'll look again, but I can't take those 'magic' pictures, like you say.
The sunrise was spectacular, at least, with those wispy's.
