Hi a friends friend learnt to extract spice from mhrb.
He has maybe 7 types of varying colours and consistency of spice.
He re-x the batches that looked like needed it but has left others that are white, tan and yellow.
Should he re-x it all together or keep it separate?
I think I would keep them differing but for the sake of knowing potency for doses ect..
Is re-x recommended by you guys and gals?

Tried a re-x on some and heated naphtha together with dmt into 1 glass left the dark sludge at the bottom and put the rest into a mew glass. Left it at room temperature for about 40min and fpumd this.

I'd say it depends on how much of a nerdy tinkerer you're feeling. One could carry on fractionally crystallising the residues of each batch ad infinitum (or at some point get hip with the chromatography column). Maybe your friend would like to find out what the coloured gunk really is (hint: at first it appears to be almost entirely DMT). On the other hand, we won't send you hate mail if you just chuck it all into one pot and toss the post-re-x residue.

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."

They are crystals if looked at closely. Pic doesn't do it justice. Its been put in the freezer to see what happens, not sure if it's dmt crystals that have grown in 40 mins at room temp, or impurities?
This batch will be played with to see what can and can't be done. Any ideas?
Will post pics after a night in freezer when I receive them.

A carbonate + H2O wash to remove polar impurities followed by a heptane re-X to get rid of non-polar ones will give you DMT as pure as one can realistically get in the kitchen. Vaporization will further "purify" the compound by leaving higher-boiling impurities behind, practically speaking.

Your pure DMT will still become yellow over time, with light, heat and air accelerating the process. I do not know whether the change of color is caused by the pyrrole nitrogen oxidizing (losing electrons to the environment) possibly followed by polymerization, amine nitrogen bonding with oxygen to form DMT-N-Oxide, some other reaction (like ring cleavage) taking place, aerobic bacterial decomposition, or a combination of reasons. Pyrrole, indole, and tryptamine themselves degrade and change color in somewhat similar ways, so perhaps the answer can be found in the general nitrogen heterocyclic chemistry.

After a night in the freezevthe crystals where tried to be chipped of but they crumbled up, so tried a carb wash and clumsiness caused some loss but it's all a learning curve. Now sat in jug of warm water so the dm doesn't crash out.
It will be done with minimal harm and bad taste.....

You do lose some material every time you mess with it.

Washes need to be quick and with minimum amount of cold water. No need to wash 3 times - one carbonate wash, and one distilled water wash are enough. Re-x needs to be long - wrap your container with aluminum foil to insulate it so it cools down slowly; make sure that it spends 24+ hours in the freezer after you move it there.

If you do not have a deep/medical freezer, do not discard the recrystallization solvent - it still contains trace amounts of DMT. Just use it for your next extraction.
