Aenima is my favorite Tool album. I also liked 10000 Days and Lateralus. I don't like Perfect Circle and I thought this latest Tool album was a bunch of shit.

Reflection hits me spiritually. But saying I have a favorite is something that taxes me. I'm bummed that I no longer will be able to see tool this year because of corona virus but they might reschedule.

IDK, I love Opiate and Undertow, when those were released, they catalyzed a shift in my music tastes back into harder stuff from my acid-rock days. Not a huge fan of their later stuff, it all has such a similarity in tonality, instrumentation and production that it just gets boring to me. I do love their iconography and graphic/packaging design.

No kidding! Can you say "cash grab"? My room mate bought it for the nifty video player in the digipak, but even with the cool package, it a'int worth it...

They played Portland right before the shut-down, I have a friend who had tix but he couldn't give them away and his girl wouldnt let him go because of the panic! I really want to know how empty/full the arena was...

I think you guys are insane to think the last album is bad Very happy

Invincible (tale of growing old), and Descending (the tale of our humanity's global crisis and necessity to unite to overcome our ending, strangely prophetical concerning our current situation) are masterpieces imo. I just personally didn't enjoy much the fear inoculum song, but I still appreciate the amazing work that went behind creating such songs.

Did you listen to it tripping? Very happy

As for the other albums, I like so many, and I love to see how they evolved over time, starting with a lot of anger, and sublimating their energy and becoming more spiritual/balanced.

Some of my fav songs from them, in no order:

Right in two
Schism
The Grudge
The Pot
wings for marie 1 and 2
Lateralus
Reflection
Jambi
Aenima
The Patient
46&2
Sober
Prison Sex
Undertow
Opiate

Sometimes I watch people reaction channels and some of the first reactions to Tool are cool, see them get taken on a journey and have their mind blown by all the crazy time signatures and depth of the songs.

Probably my all-time favorite band-- and I also love APC.

Hard to pin down favorites among so many highlights, but I'll say that 10000 days 1&2 have been some of the best DMT companions I've experienced-- just transcendent

Cool

At first I wasnt very into the new album but its growing on me a ton. Especially descending and invincible. Fear inoculum also hits differently after all this covid stuff. Prophetic

I also haven't been huge on the new album.... I loved it the first handful of listens then grew bored... But, this was more or less my reaction to 10,000 days; so we'll see how it hold up a decade from now. 10,000 has plenty of brilliant stuff on it (and it's attached to some of my fondest memories of friends and times in my life).

Pneuma is probably my favorite on the new one by the way.. Invincible was pretty darn good too.. 7empest too; although some of the lyrics I'm still not sure about in that one.

No, I was working in the studio, so it was more background than something I really engaged myself with.

Allright, I'll get stoneder next time and give it another chance....

There's just so much psychedelic metal that I get into so much more... boris anyone?

Listening to it tripping realy works for me.

I often make a playlist the days before taking something, and i usually include some tool songs.
Never a whole album though, because i feel you can sort of get used to the sound of it, wich would take away the element of surprise that good music can have when you're tripping.

It is always good to put something in it that you haven't heard before as well. Novelty is a great thing for the tripping mind.

Tool can almost change your perception of everything in such a way. Their music can make me write or draw for hours. They are so unique, it's all good.

As a post on a youtube video of Tool said:

Artist: Tool
Album: (any)
Song: (any)
Genre: Tool

Insanity is past, present, and future pain.
Past pain never dies, otherwise it would not be pain.
Life is present pain.
All unknown and feared is future pain.
Is the absence of pain happiness?
And if constant pain leads to insanity; Can constant insanity destroy the pain?

Reflection I have to agree is a fantastic song. So restrained and layered.

Triad has great energy.

Parabol/a is one of my all time favourites. So pure in intention, so heavy in execution. Ecstatic.

Had the chance to see them play live three years past.
Such an awesome experience. Best part was all the people I met with similar interests.
Really hope to see them play live again.

Parabola at the peak took the win...
