Introduction:

A bit of an odd post I know, but if your like me and just absolutely love excessive amounts of Capsicum annuum containing capsaicin in your food, chances are that at least some of you may have experienced some form of gastrointestinal discomfort including but not limited to stomach pain and diarrhea. The purpose of this post is made on the consensus of gathering as much intel as possible on possible ways one might reduce these capsaicin related side effects as the name of the title suggest.

KT's Tried Remedies:

1) Mentha x piperita - The idea behind this one would be exploiting the weak counterirritant and antispasmodic properties produced by its signature alcohol menthol to counteract some of the irritation caused via capsaicin. I've found this mint to be weak but effective when used for this purpose.

2) Erythroxylum coca - In addition to the pleasant local anesthesia induced by its tropane alkaloid cocaine, I've also found this plant to be moderately effective in terms of reliving pain in general be it the gastrointestinal pain produced by capsaicin to the pain you get from stubbing your toe. Works great for pain all around. Word of caution: IMO this drug used in it's natural plant form is plenty strong enough for whatever purpose you want to use it for, so it is out of common curtsy I respectfully ask to make no attempt in making it stronger than it already is be it concentrated tinctures or extractions.

3) Cannabis sativa - Given the muscle relaxant qualities of the THC terpinoid I feel this can provide moderate relieve counteracting the gastrointestinal spasms that occur after a chilli binge in a superior manner to menthol listed earlier. However IME this plant doesn't seem to do too much for the pain related symptoms and in some cases might actually induce hyperalgesia for me personally.

4) Papaver somniferum - Personally I don't recommend this to anyone for obvious reasons and its too much of an overkill when used for this purpose anyway, but I feel I must give credit where credit is due since IME this plant is by far the most effective medicine-remedy for this purpose virtually eliminating ALL side effects evoked by capsaicin especially the diarrhea given that the alkaloids morphine and codeine contained within the plant are quite effective at inducing constipation. In fact this plant is so effective that when under the influence I purposely consume as much 'fire' as my heart desires and that is physically possible as I won't have to suffer the consequences of my actions later.

Another Possible Remedy:

5) Salvia divinorum - I've yet to try this one but from what I've been reading is that k-opioid agonists such as salvinorin A have been found to be (despite their dysphoric qualities) effective as analgesics and decreasing gastrointestinal motility in an analogous manner to the u-opioid agonist such as morphine and codeine listed earlier. So I thought it might be of value to mention this one especially due to the fact that unlike Papaver somniferum this plant isn't known to be addictive and actually quite the opposite from what I've both read and seen online.

Edit: I just wanted to point out that a lot of the natural remedies listed may also be applied to reducing the symptoms associated with irritable bowl syndrome (IBS), opiate withdrawal and food poisoning as a lot of the gastrointestinal side effects of capsaicin seem to overlap with these conditions.

Edit 2: Disclaimer - The plants listed: Erythroxulum coca, Cannabis sativa and Papaver somniferum contain addictive-dependence causing compounds such as cocaine, THC and morphine respectfully so its best to treat these drugs with the highest of respect, taking into consideration that you may end up living the rest of your life on them.

I looove eating extremely hot Thai food, band usually the most painful effects are felt the day after as a painful, cramping sensation in the guts more than even heat as one might expect.

Salvia would be interesting to try. I smoke cannabis most of the time these days, which helps a little for this spicy belly, but mostly it's still present.

I would be very interested if anyone actually had a strategy. I have never heard of one before.

I love peppers and pepper plants as much as the next person, but maybe we get these reactions to spices because they are not good for us? Not nutritional and only a bombardment on our craving for sensation. I find it interesting how as my level of consciousness got higher, my taste for spices and their smells went from love to hate. I cant be in the same house now if someone uses spices and I cant believe it isnt as harmful for the person cooking as for me. But the same thing happened to me with all dead animal products after a dmt trip where pink angels healed me and I came back a vegetarian, deeply disgusted with chicken. I still have nausea for it. And I had eaten meat most my life. So all this I discovered alone, but when reading the sacred texts later I found so much that coincided with these changes in my life. For example;

Quote:
spices are forbidden for some sects (China, Vietnam) for pretty much the same reason as in Hinduism, they're said to lead to anger (raw) and passion (cooked), but the Buddhists add that their odors repel gods and attract hungry ghosts and demons.

my opinion on this is the same as on many similar posts, its silly to stop a problem (bad digestion from spices) with more problems (strong and addictive drugs to counter act.) The whole thing is skewed, faulty logic

I dont like the premise here, but I love you Smile god bless

Yeah I regretfully admit that most of the remedies I posted here were too much of an overkill for such an annoying but benign problem nonetheless. To be honest I was just going through some capsaicin induced discomfort at the time and since I hadn't made a post recently I thought I might produce one on this topic and see how it went.

The remedies listed excluding the Salvia divinorum were just substances I've used in the past recreationally (don't say that with pride) and since I've always been interested in there medicinal potentials I also began using my recreational drugs as personal medicine to treat various illnesses and also as a means of not having to rely on OTC or prescription meds or this countries healthcare in general. So I thought I might make a post on my past experiences with these drugs and how effective they were as treatments for this type of problem.

However having said all that I do believe some of these remedies listed such as the Mentha x piperita
and perhaps the Salvia divinorum can be safely used without having to be concerned about the potential of becoming addicted or dependent but I'll make a second edit just to aid health and safety.

Edit: Love you too babes Love

I'm probably just stating the obvious, but making sure the capsaicin is properly extracted is quite helpful. Otherwise the food won't be very hot, and it extracts in your stomach etc. and produces a disproportionate amount of discomfort. Also, if you combine the spice with the main quantity of food you're eating it will be dilute and not spicy despite remaining the same quantity. Eating it at a higher concentration separately seems to go further. Having something in your stomach first to dilute things can be helpful too. Anyways...
