can anyone tell me if this is acacia obtusifolia? it was found growing in an area where they are supposed to be common. sorry about the crap pics they were taken on my phone.

Looks like it to me. But I'm in the same boat as Dee Em Tea, using the internet to i.d a blury photo.

Longifolia and Obtusi are hard to tell apart unless flowering. Obtusi has just finished its flowering period so if these pics were taken a month or so ago then its possile it Obtusi. Impossible to 100% ID from a blurry photo though.

the pic was taken in december. the website of the national park where we found them states that obtusifolia grows there so im aussuming i have the right stuff. thanks for the help guys.

Doestnt look much like the obtusifolia ive seen west of sydney, but it could be.

Just do a little extraction on some bark and you will find out.

Obtusi can be a real pain to ID, like I said before because it looks a lot like longifolia but also because it changes its form depending on the environment. I have 6 obtusi seedling I have grown, they were seeded 2 months apart or so. Now the first lot look totally different from the last lot even though they were all from the same seed batch. At first I was pissed when the second batch started to show their form because I thought someone had sent me miss ID seeds and I'd wasted 12 months, then I remembered that both lots of plants were from the same seed batch.

Its a sly one that obtusi, gotta keep your eyes on it .

But once you get to know them, although how similar to longifolia they are, they're totally different too. Longifolia grows denser and branches easier (for the same area, a longifolia will have a lot more phyllodes than an obtus). The biggest ID factor though is the serrated edge of the obtus phyllodes compared to the laminated smoothness and perfect edges of the longifolia leaves

the flowers and the flowering timing definitely does sound like obtus though

it turns out it is actually obtusifolia as we made some aya and a friend drank it and had a good 2 hour trip. Thanks for the help everyone

After posting this pic I received a message from the person whom I may or may not (can't remember who I traded with for them) have received the seeds for these plants off may have accidentally mixed some seeds in from a species other than obtusi while harvesting. The plants he has grown from said seed look like my plants. So it looks like they are 2 seperate species after all

i had a look around jamberoo but ended up finding these about 30km south
