For a crude caapi extraction would one be better off boiling caapi three times in acidic water and then evapping to a powder or using Everclear and doing the same? Is one a better solvent than the other? Also would one get nausea ingesting resulting powder?

What kind of acid? Don't use anything harsh. I don't think alcohol is a good solvent to extract with as harmaloids seem to be unstable in ethanol (think harmala red whatever it is). I am sure ingesting such a mixture would cause nausea.
Also I highly doubt SWIY would get a powder after evaporation. There is going to be a lot of plant oils and phenolics among other compounds in a crude extract.
Why not just make tea? There is no advantage to making such a crude extract as opposed to tea.

I would have added some lemon juice or vinegar to the water. I figured by evaporating the brew, I'd be able to scrape up the tar/powder/goo and gelcap it for easier consumption and storage.
Okay, so it is thought that ethanol is not a good solvent for this type of extraction. Too bad.

I think you can store concentrated caapi tea for quite some time (perhaps even frozen?). You'll have to ask others on the forum about this though SWIM is not sure. Scraping up gooes and oily gunk is going to be difficult to get into capsules.

I have been doing a little experimenting lately with Caapi. I am not into purging, so I will always take the easiest way around that and I would prefer not to do a Harmala extract. What I have found to work perfectly is allowing my Caapi brew to sit several days in a cool dark place and then decant filtering through a t shirt. The resultant brew causes me no nausea what so ever. Just mix in the spice and ... . . . . down the hatch all at once. I can make a 10 dose batch and I'm set for a month or so. Some mornings I enjoy a cup of warm caapi brew with no spice, just caapi. It makes the day go by....... Groovy. A warm cup before bed is also nice. Ice House is an alter ego. Decanting and refiltering takes out a bulk of the leftover pulp/fiber and results in a less tanic brew which is easier on the stomache. Ice House is an alter ego. Go for the extract mate! Swim's actually used harmala alkaloids before, except syrian rue (smoked) which seems to potentiate the DMT effects a little. also works good as a base to smoke the alkaloids from. shoe

It is powder. I once extracted with the Herbal percecolator using water with vinegar and reduced it to a brown powder. It was active sublingually.

I am in the process of the extraction of caapi. I took 500 grams of shredded cielo caapi vine and put it into a gallon jug. I added about three bottles of Everclear and a little HCL. I let it sit for a few days and shook it a lot. I also placed it in a hot pot of water for hours and hours. Next I will filter the Everclear and then do one more wash. Then I will filter again and then evaporate the Everclear, scrape and gelcap the goods. I will then divide it up into ten doses. I am sure this will be heavenly!

SWIM and others have seen alcohols (methanol, ethanol, IPA) as well as acetone to oxidise the harmala alkaloids. They became red (harmala red) and have unknown bioactivity. Did you notice the alcohol coming out from the caapi to be reddish? SWIM is curious! Need to calculate between salts and freebases? Click here! inf... it is possible that acidified alcohol is different than pure alcohol.. Ive seen harmala red forming from freebase harmalas dissolved in IPA but it wasnt acidified, and I know whiterasta here in the forum swears by extraction of rue that uses acidified alcohol, so it could be that this makes a difference..
do let us know how it turns out joebono

So far it is brown, but I am still working on the first wash. Someone I know has done this same extraction and swears by the full spectrum caapi alkaloids that it extracts in all of its glory. I probably have another week or so until it is all done and then I will post the results. Wish me luck.

Last week I accidentally knocked over the whole container with my evaporating caapi everclear extract. What a waste! I used 500 grams of caapi and bottles and bottles of everclear.

Wow, that sucks.
SWIM wonders if harmala red only forms when using harmaline. His harmala extractions turned red when mixed with 99% IPA, but didn't change color when it was only the alkaloids precipitated out with baking soda that were mixed with IPA.
His caapi extraction also did not turn red with alcohol, and actually picked up a very pure looking waxy substance leaving behind a red one.

I have a second extraction going now. I had 400 grams of caapi in a crockpot for a week and I strained and replaced the water three times. I reduced that down to a goo and then added Everclear to the goo and refiltered it. Now I am drying the Everclear and hope to scrape and capsule the result into 8 doses.
