first time here. I am wondering how you clean your beakers and jars after a spice extraction from powdered mhrb. I hope that washing with dawn dish soap isn't whats making my yields smaller.
Thanks

Thanks Well, it would probably depend how clean you need them. Dish soap is obviously water soluble, so just make sure you rinse it a few times after washing it. If you're just using the glassware for extractions again, I think it's fine to wash them the same as ordinary dishes, maybe use a bottle brush if you have one around. Cleaning is pretty simple if you don't let the material dry on.

thank you. I have been getting upwards of 0.8g to 1.1g for every 50g mhrb powdered. as of recently I have been getting 0.121g to 0.210g for every 50g mhrb. I wasn't sure if washing my equipment was lowering my yield.
do you know if powdered mhrb loses is potency over time and do the vm&p naphtha lose is potency. I do a STB tek. 50g mhrb powder to 50g lye in 500ml h2o with 60ml naphtha. I use either a bag on top of the jar or the lid to the jar. I sit jar in hot water bath and every 45 min I change out the water for more hot water and I swirl the jars around to mix up at that time as well. I do this for 4 hrs. and then do 1st pull.
I used mhrb from USA based supplier and had the best results. 2nd supplier was from brazil and this is the one giving the most issues with yield.
I dont want to have to scrap a whole kilo of powder if I dont have to.

soap and water, then methanol, or acetone. standard lab practice. "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." ~ hassan i sabbah "Experiments are the only means of attaining knowledge at our disposal. The rest is poetry, imagination." -Max Planck

I wash my glassware with soapy water, then dilute vinegar if I want to get rid of freebase alkaloid leftovers.
Don't think washing is the culprit behind your lower yields, most likely it's the root bark (which may be total root bark instead of inner, or even stem bark?)

Your source material is likely the culprit. I usually do a final rinse with distilled water, but using Dawn dish soap would not have an effect on yield, even if it left a slight residue.

Also, get more bark (maybe a few different sources) and compare relative yields of each different batch. Increase your sample size......Science Time! Love and Light and Travel Well. I clean mine with soap and hot water, then rinse with acetone, I leave the bulb off and let air dry for a while then I place the bulb back on and just pump some air through it to evap the remaining acetone. I dont know if this is best practice but it's what has worked for me so far
