Base contamination Options

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been answered. I did search but did not find the answer. I just did my first extract. I know I was a little sloppy with the first pull and I am concerned about Base contamination. How do you know if you have that issue? What are the risks associated with it? Will a re-ex take care of it or do you need to do an A/B on it?

Many thanks in advance.

You will immediately notice contamination for its muddy brown colour. The basic solution and np solvent are totally immiscible, so it will show up as little brown globules. It can show as a rusty stain in the finished product. In this case you can recrystallize, although you'd have to do a real hack job of pulling to get so much water in your nps.

To my knowledge the greatest risk is to your alveoli.

Bismillah is spot on. Use chase jars and re-x if needed. Yellowing is not necessarily a sign of base contaminants. Brown and purple definitely are though.
