It's the latest Terry Giliam Movie. Anyone seen it? I guess most of you would interpret this flick in a very certain way. Just take a look at the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFxqw0jbC2Y
It's got it's length I have to admit, but it makes up for with some really beautiful symbolic imagery, a plot that can be understood in many ways...there's even one scene where you can feel Giliams monthy python past.

Didn't know it was out yet. Gonna have to go experience it soon. Thanks for the heads up. "Within your heart is a lotus, and within this lotus is a diamond. This diamond is the source of creation, and in all the creation, there is only one lotus."

I have seen it, it is brilliant in many ways and strongly recommended! The concept of the imaginarium seems analagous of the DMT flash, people enter it and take away from it whatever their mind created. The graphics are fantastic and the hyper-real colours remind me of some visions seen on spice. There is even a short scene where one character is trying to tell another how awesome and beautiful the imaginarium is, and he gets swept away by the emotion of the experience, much like someone trying to convey the emotion of a dmt journey to another. The best film I saw in 2009 I think. I actually left the cinema thinking Terry Gilliam had tried spice and was making a covert movie about it, but that could just be my overactive imagination Oh great - the world has just been replaced by elf machinery. Quote:The graphics are fantastic and the hyper-real colours remind me of some visions seen on spice. Yes, and some scenes manage to recreate part of that special atmosphere. Specially the first time they enter the mirror. It's too bad I'm on a night schedule right now or I'd see it tomorrow. "Within your heart is a lotus, and within this lotus is a diamond. I saw it.. I really liked some parts, of course the imaginarium is super trippy, some scenes more than others.. The idea of the film is quite nice and the devil character is superb... but there was also some aspects I didnt like so much... Anyways, its definitely worth watching, and then make up your own opinion

Haven't seen it yet but it seems to be a wonderfully built story with interesting characters swirling in a sea of fantasy...can't be that bad now can it? Prison (by maymay)

Very nice movie. Some "imaginarium" sceneries are like lucid dreams !

It was incredible, saw it opening weekend with a friend who saw a screener and is familiar with but has never tried spice. He told me I had to see it and I couldn't agree more. I giggled through all the Imaginarium scenes and mystical quotes, it just resonated so deeply with vaped spice, I couldn't believe it! Terry Gilliam knows what's up. dam I wish I managed to catch this in the cinemas. need to try and pick up the dvd, but somthing tells me these worlds are better perceived in more grand surroundings! ambi lysergance is a fictional character who in the realms of fantasy indulges in such topics as science, arts and psychoactive plant induced visions

I saw this movie, and it really reminded me nothing of spice. Just because there is a sharp break into another reality in a sci-fi or fantasy film doesn't have to mean that it's inspired by spice, in fact it happens quite a bit in cinema these days. Did Pan's Labyrinth remind you of spice as well? How about The Neverending Story? The Imaginarium was a great movie though, definitely worth admission. On another note, anyone here seen Alphaville by Jean-Luc Godard? Everything I post is made up fiction. SWIM represents a character who is not based in or on reality.

Sorry, posted this in the wrong thread a second ago... Quote from the film (on describing the imaginarium): It is.... It's impossible to describe... It is a mystery, it's everything, it's you, it's me, it's us. It is the universe, behind our mirror That reminds me of spice. It is part of the conversation about 45mins into the film, and this conversation forms a major theme that runs through the film. Pan's Labyrinth (which is brilliant) and The Neverending Story do not remind me of spice at all. Oh great - the world has just been replaced by elf machinery. Sic transit gloria mundi

But I mean that whole idea is not something that originates with spice, that theme as you call it, has been described in countless religious contexts such as hinduism, buddhism, taoism and to a large extent native american wisdom. I mean, simply because things can be described abstractly using similar terms does not mean they are references or allusions to each other. I saw it as a whole to be highlighting the dichotomy between true imagination and imagination driven by desire. Everything I post is made up fiction. SWIM represents a character who is not based in or on reality.

The character is describing the mystical experience, which does not originate with spice. Spice certainly grants many people these type of feelings and experiences however. I dont really know what Gilliam was getting at with the film, and whilst I'll admit it is very unlikely the film is made about it, there do seem to be several striking similarities with spice. Some of the visual representations in the imaginarium really reminded me of it. There are often seemingly sentient characters in the visions, and a lot of the colours are similar as well. Either way, it is an involving, thought provoking and visually stunning film! Oh great - the world has just been replaced by elf machinery. Sic transit gloria mundi

"I'M GOING TO CHICAGO BOYS!!!" I love Tom Waits in that film. Also, when they come out on the swing it proper reminds me of landing from hyperspace. So happy!

On all your recommendations, and against my better judgment (Tideland was awful), I have rented the imaginarium. Impressions to follow!! JBArk JBArk is a Mandelthought; a non-fiction character in a drama of his own design he calls "LIFE" who partakes in consciousness expanding activities and substances; he should in no way be confused with SWIM, who is an eminently data-mineable and prolific character who has somehow convinced himself the target he wears on his forehead is actually a shield.
