I've been doing some reading lately with all this downtime. I just finished a great book, "Mescaline" by Mike Jay. Well written, informative, everything I want about a book on this subject matter.

After finishing, I started up a book called "Sacred Mushroom Rituals: The Search for the Blood of Quetzalcoatl" by Tom Lane. I couldn't get through the introduction- I bought the book because he name drops Albert Hoffman, Gordon Wasson, and Maria Sabina. I thumbed through the book and saw that he claims to have gotten information from Maria Sabina on how to do a specific ceremony in which you "meet and become" Quetzalcoatl which strikes me as pretty off the deep end. parts of it involve only wearing natural fibers, turning off the main circuit breaker in your house and having someone playing a bamboo flute or acoustic guitar but NO other music.

I was looking for a book that talks about historical Mazatec and Zapotec use of mushrooms and I instead got a spurious-sounding, wandering book about "rituals" starting with Zapatista poetry and suggestions to do Qi Gong. My BS meter is going off and I'm pretty sure I know what I think about it but now I'm just curious...am I missing something? I tried to listen to a couple podcasts who had him as a guest and I could barely follow what he was saying. His interview was retweeted by MAPS which I assume is a respectable organization and the interviewers seem to speak highly of him. I just can't with this guy though.

Any info on him?
