Hey guys,
SWIM added naptha yesterday night. today he filled some of the mixture in a glass. waited for about 15min. the problem is that there aren't two layers. it's still completely mixed (not seperating). may it can be that the naptha is evaporated over night ? (had the windows whide opened and later the naptha smelling was away, is it needed to mask the mixture ?)
what can be wrong ? Please help

SWIM added again a bit naptha to the glass. Now there are two layers seperated (the top layer is gettin yellow)
I could only imagine that the naptha is evaporated duo night!?

well its possible it evaporated yes, you shouldnt leave it uncovered for too long like overnight
how much MHRB/Water/Lye are you using?

when you finish mixing your batch you should seal it cause I can imagine naptha might evaporate out and make you start over again All posts are made as hypothetical statements and fantasies and none are truthful admissions of any actions whatsoever.

Someone allready told SWIM that it is necessary to mask it. SWIM is using: 100g lye, 1,5l water and 100g MHRB. SWIM sealt the mix and added Naptha again. Now it seems that everything will turn right. Thank you for your help.

SWIM uses equivalent ratio for 50g & 75g extractions... also the longer & narrower the neck of the bottle the easier it is to separate. BTW w/ these Noman& lazyman Teks SWIM believes if you heat the mixture too hot with hot tap water than it can cause the layers to develop 90% emulsion that won't separate at all. SWIM is now very careful with heat baths & relies on longer times and rolling containers around instead of shaking them because separation seems fuller. You should keep the mixture in a closed container. With a tight lid. It is probably evaporated. That smell comes from evaporating naphta  When you close the lid next time if the layers dont seperate again , try adding some more basified water(naoh+water) to your mixture, stir slowly with a metal spoon and let it sit for a while. but first of all you should use a closed container.
