Removing plastic - acid choice Options

I suspect that my product has trace amounts of plastic and BPA and I want to remove/reduce the contamination - however, I'm left wondering which acids/solvents I should use. Vinegar is cheap, so I'd like to use that, but I'm concerned that I'll end up with a freebase goo instead of the powder/crystal form. To get to my question, will cleaning up the product with vinegar and then reconverting to freebase result in a goo? I also have citric acid.
