a new and interesting marine metabolite, sharing structure similarities with indoles and cannabinoids (picture attached) was recently reported to possess promising antidepressant activity in the forced swim test. Veranamine (picture attached) isolated from Verongida rigida is an example of an unusual structure and supports the importance of isolation often being the only method that offers access to structurally new and unique molecules which could not be readily synthesized for a biological evaluation.
