I wanted to start this thread so we could talk about our heritage a little. Great way to learn something about other people and each other. I'll start it off since I made the thread.

I am of descent from clan gunn. The gunns are descendants of the Norse Jarls and Earls of Orkney. Gunni, the reputed name-father of the clan, was the grandson of Sweyn Asleif's-son, the "Ultimate Viking" and hero of the Orkneyinga saga.

The writing in the picture about means, "Either peace or war". The gunns were a violent clan often waring with the Keith's and Mackay's.

How were the women back then?

The history is really more patriarchal. Geneology goes by the male bloodline and the important exploits of the clan were pretty much all done by men. I don't know much about the everyday living of a woman in the gunn clan, but that is a good question and I will look into it.

My Grand-Grand Dad was a funny communist, my granddad a funny guy...and I'm a guy.
It runs in the family.

But to be serious...no lineage here. Egocentric kinship all the way.
