The parrafin wax defatted it nicely ... the only way now to know for sure is to use the wax on a fresh batch of bark.
The spent bark appears to be yielding little oil or 'goo'.
The first pull was allowed to sit for ten minutes to drop out any oils then poured into a fresh clean jar and placed in freezer. Crystals now beginning to form.
I'll post them when they are finished.
I'm kinda anxious to see what the yield will be from reusing this bark and putting it through this test
If the yield is significant, then I may switch to hot water teks and defat with the paraffin wax to decrease oils and fats
When the wax solidified after cooling, it was a tan sort of color and did not form one lump but many tiny 'beads' which had to be filtered out while still cold.
The fact it did not form one solid clump tells me it binded with the bark oils/fats nicely
Good to know the cold water tek works but it does need tweaking ...
It really matters if the bark is chipped or powdered, when it comes to cold water
Hot water gets into chipped bark more readily and faster and cold water takes a long time, a couple days at least, to get it all out.
I don't think much fats or oils come out in a cold water tek, I think its the heat responsible for that to some degree ... BUT, nmt or 'goo' does come through the cold water so ...
I guess the next step will be to try a defat with the wax after cold water soaks just to see the difference, if there will be any
Pics of the results of this experiment soon to come
