MHRB and lye Options

When I make DMT I use Noman’ s tek.

The tek says to mix the MHRB with lye. After an hour one can start with the naphtha etc.

What is the time limit to keep the MHRB in the lye to have the best results?

I guess this forum is full of chemists who can say something about this matter.

Instantly, because the heat from the lye-water interaction helps the naphtha pick up more dmt and helps emulsions settle too.

but if you are not using a lot of lye then personally I have noticed that the solution becomes a little less thick after about an hour once all the lye has settled in.

Remeber 50c is maximum you want the heat to be at, no more. You can feel how hot the side of the jar is. Just add lye slowly if you don't have a thermometer.

You can begin pulling DMT within an hour or so. But to tell how long you should let it set to get the maximum yield, that Is a complex answer. There are many factors that need to be accounted for. The temperature of the room your using, the total volume of your extraction materials, the actual pH of your solution, and the efficacy of your solvent. From my experience, I like let my lye and root bark mixture set for an hour or so, with some shaking, then add your solvent. The first pull can be made within another hour and yield DMT, albeit a percentage of the overall, extractable DMT. My sweet spot is letting my lye solution and solvent set for around 6 hours per pull, with occasional shaking and rolling. While this works for my extraction set up, you might find that less or more time can be added to your set up, resulting in greater yields. As a rule of thumb, I would let the solution set for an hour after first mixing, then add your solvent and wait for AT LEAST another hour before doing your first pull. You will find after 2-3 extractions using the same tek, what works best for the equipment and materials you have.
As a side note there are plenty of reports of people making succesful extractions by letting their materials set for days or weeks (mostly with large, several kg extractions) but this does not seem to effect their overall yield. You might get more plant fats and what not by letting it set for longer (which in my opinion isn't the biggest deal but that's just me), but the overall amount of DMT extracted will be greater.

You may think you can or think you can't; either way you're right.

Thank you both for the responses.

I finished an extraction with 70 gram powdered MHRB.

Almost everything was the same as before. Amount of water, lye, temperature, shaking, waiting, etc.

Except for the naphtha. Same amount, but this time rolling the naphtha around the sludge twelve times, three times more than Noman’s tek prescribes. And when the naphtha floated on top I kept it there three times longer too.

When I checked the harvest after the freeze precipitation and drying, there was the same amount of yield.

So I think Noman gives the right information. For me having the naphtha longer in the vessel seems to be unnecessary.

For this tek (and, indeed, all STBs) the most important factor is cell lysing. That is to say, you have to give the alkaline solution enough time to break down the cell walls of your chosen plant matter. So the variable to consider is time under base. Most of the alkaloids will be removed in the first 2 nps pulls, so 4 pulls is really overkill (but we all do it anyway... Just in case).

I'm not a big fan of SWIM. I mean, I've never met the guy, but any time I hear about him, he's doing something sketchy.
