So I've been experimenting for several months now trying to hack my brain for optimal neurotransmition using a cocktail of nootropic supplements, herbal supplements, and vitamins. Currently I'm taking ginkobiloba for norepenephrine, 5HTP for serotonin, N-acetyl tyrosine for dopamine and norepenephrine, and b-6, b-12, zinc, and magnesium to also help with serotonin in conjunction with the 5HTP. I've been experiencing some very noticeable positive results with this particular cocktail, especially when I added N-acetyl tyrosine to my supplement regimen. My mood is brighter, I laugh more, I have less aches and pains in my body, I'm much more social, and my level of motivation has improved. This has been working well enough that I don't want to discontinue taking my beloved supplements any time soon. Lately I've really had the urge to smoke some changa. I know it is definitely not advisable to take tyrosine when ingesting MAOIs, but does anyone know for sure if it is safe to smoke MAOIs in conjunction with tyrosine or any of these other supplements. I read an experience report somewhere on the net in the past where an individual took a supplement contain tyrosine about a week after they smoked some rather powerful changa and it ended up creating problems for them. I will probably err on the side of caution and discontinue neurotransmitter enhancing supplements before I smoke again. I was just wondering if anyone had some advice or concrete information regarding the mixture of neurotransmitter enhancing supplements and smoked MAOIs.
May all beings know real happiness, real peace, and real truth. May all being disentangle themselves from karmic bondage. May all beings help disentangle others from karmic bondage.

Smoked MAOI would be no different from an oral MAOI... only the duration and it would be the duration of excess tyramine in ur system from the tyrosine... Funny thing is, if you take MAOI regularly then you will get an excess of dopamine just like you do with tyrosine but I am not sure how noticable the two would be... That way you could alleviate the interaction and still improve your mood with dopamine.

I would check the half lifes of both drugs u r using and then regard urself as one safe guy k?

In dopaminergic cells in the brain, tyrosine is converted to levodopa by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase (TH). L-DOPA is produced from the amino acid L-tyrosine by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase (TH).

It has a half life of about 30-60 minutes.

And smoked harmalas would be somewhere close to that too.

Though aparantly the whole MAOI food diet is a myth and harmalas or RIMA's are safe to eat with diets with some tyramine but obviously excess might be a problem.

If you are really keen and are not content with saying no then just work your way up with small doses and see if there is any effect, though I don't recomend this as Tyrosine isn't proven to be safe with even a RIMA. My personal guess would be though that if you took tyrosine in the morning then smoked at night you would be ok but I don't know for sure. all the best.

p.s. do a search for how long does it take tyramine to leave body

also, the norepeniphrine and 5htp u are taking can be boosted naturally by MAOI too. If you take an MAOI plus those substances you may have way to many monamine transmitters going around, maybe not though as those supps are mild anyway but maybe just try little bit of both like i said and se how u feel, cheers.
