Limonene concern Options

I am attempting q21's tek 1 for the first time using limonene as solvent and have salted out the actives into vinegar. I now plan to, as per q21's instructions, place the vinegar on a flat-bottomed pyrex dish and evaporate slowly over a simmering or boiling pot of water (so the dish does not sit in, but above the water) so that hopefully pure freebase jimjam goo will be achieved.

However the dmt acetate / water solution is still stinking like heaven's orange garden and I am simply concerned as to whether it would be wise to evap in this manner until I have air-evapped the limonene off, if indeed that would work. I was careful with the baster so dont think there is much there. Is the solution just "stained" with the limonene scent now or should I be worried about residual limo igniting? Ive heard of changa made with limonene having an orangey smell. I see a thin layer or a "top" to the solution but basting it out does not remove the millermeter line that is clear (my limonene was foggy anyway) so i assume that is just the natural appearance of the solution as a whole.

Many thanks, I have spent an hour or so searching but want to be sure

happy new year 2015 Smile

Hey changa, how are ya?

Ok, a few things. I'm a little confused to how you have done q21s tek. Did you basify the solution? DMT-acetate isn't soluble in non-polar solvent (limonene etc). The acetate must be converted to freebase by basifying the solution with a.. well.. a base. In q21 calcium hydroxide or Lime is used. Once the acetate is converted to freebase it is then soluble in your non-polar.
I'm sorry if I have misinterpreted your question but sounds like you've missed a step or two..

I'm happy to help though, so let me knowSmile

Peace

Hi T-Bux, thanks for your response!

I used 100g powdered mhrb and acidified with white wine vinegar, then basified with calcium hydroxide and dried out the mixture to consistency in a slow cooker. I then added 150ml d limonene which became foggy when stirred. stirred occasionally for twenny minutes then poured into a container.

to the limonene I added a shot glass worth of vinegar and agitated. Then using a turkey baster I pulled the seperated vinegar from the bottom. Unused to pulling from the bottom rather than the top I fear some d limonene found its way in, even in a minute quantity.

I think I'm gonna just evap outside in a pyrex dish with a cloth over it and see what comes of that, gf is hating the smell of limonene!

if you can set my mind at rest about the potential limo in the vinegar that would be wicked. everything ive read about limonene indicated it is "food safe" and relatively harmless to the best of our knowledge but since then ive discovered of course it is highly flammable and recommends not to make any contact with your body or be ingested so I want to be super sure

many thanks and peace Smile

should add that i also did another pull of the vinegar with two shot glasses worth of water, per q21s instructions, i assume water and limonene seperate and besides the little film on the top cannot see any dramatic seperation

Yup the water would have been the bottom layer, same as when you did the vinegar.

Separating bottom layers is much easier with a separating funnel, it's quite easy to make a basic oneSmile

It is possible a small amount of limonene found its way into your final product. I can't see it being a huge problem however. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I take it you plan on making the tincture?

Freeze the water/vinegar. The limonene should stay liquid & sit on top to be poured off. You can use a paper towel to dab the remaining limo off the ice once most of it is decanted away.

I'd also reccommend a sodium carbonate wash or mini a/b.
Cleaning up your end product is never a bad thing.

Thank you so much for the advice concombres and twenny bux!Love def gonna look into a sep funnel now if I decide to pursue this route Smile concombres i read your suggestion about freezing at just the right time, just as I was going to bed. Popped it in and this morning wiped it gently and certainly the paper smelled of limo strongly and the solution less so as a result!
It is still slightly orangey but is now evapping in a pyrex bowl above a pan of simmering water.
looking forward to the now visible tan/ruddy red goo. my first go at full spectrum.
many thanks again,
peace
