There are a plethora of good threads moved out of the welcome area that deserve quality replies and it is a great limitation on communication and learning here...

What use is this impediment?

Feel free to create a companion thread in the welcome area to discuss any thread that you don't have access to as a new member. New member status should not serve as any kind of impediment to participating in the discussion.

Regarding promotion, while mods can promote at their discretion, generally the process is meant to be democratic and the majority of promotions are given based on being voted up the other members.

Yeah, I'll create 150 threads of all that I wish to post in...Rolling eyes

You know, there is a similarity in that logic with the one governments impose on substances like DMT so that the majority of the human race never experiences the true wonder of altered states.

I suggest a vote of no confidence and an election for liberal forum rules!Big grin

Have a look here: [NEW FUNCTIONALITY] Promoting new members!
and here: The Illusion of Free Speech

It should help Smile

It is 'Not' a 'free for all' environment where anything goes.
We are all in 'his house' so to speak.
Thousands of members of this community respect this fact and adhere nicely with the attitude and rules that he requests. (which are in place to protect us and the site)
I hope that you can see how it works and why this place is a special corner of the net.

Consider this forum 'The Living Room' of one person and act accordingly.

And then we would soon have the same level you see in completely open discussion areas like youtube or other forums - trolls trolling other trolls.

The new-member system is (among other things) a way for people to aclimatize themselves to what it is that this forum finds acceptable behavior and what not. We want to have progressive discussions here, and in order to favorize this we try to facilitate discussions among those that have a certain level and capability of communication and rationalization (as well as other things). It's more akin to the tryouts for a sports team perhaps, to use some kind of analogy. Though as dreamer042 explained, it's a democratic process, so the community really decides on who is adopted. It's a system that for many years now has helped to make this forum what it is - a place for quality information and discussions.

Not sure where you are trying to go with the likeness you suggest - I don't really see any relation to our philosophy and that of governments. We're not trying to stop anyone from getting help, answers or participating in this forum. All we ask is that you adapt to how things are run here. It is your free choice to remain or not if these rules are not to your liking, something that with governments and countries is not quite as easy.
