I need to upgrade from my trusty bong, so I am finally going to invest in a classic Vapor Genie! I saw the very useful VG thread, and my friend recommended a Health Stone to use with freebase spice. This is the stone: http://aqualabtechnologi...acement-vapor-stone.htmlIt says the stone is 18 mm in diameter. Will this fit into the VG? Do I put the crystals directly on the stone? After the spice melts into the stone, what keeps it from dripping into the rest of the pipe? And after it seeps in, do I touch the flame directly to the stone? How do I know when to inhale? I know it's a lot of ?s but I want to get this figured out and recorded for others. Thanks. "Think for yourself and question authority." - Leary

My friend bought a VG specifically for spice smoking, not realizing that it's the GLASS VG that is suggested. Wasn't until many failed trials later that he became frustrated with how poorly it was working and noticed he needed the glass. Not sure if other people have the same experience, but the classic VG is garbage from what I understand. Maybe the health stone thing will improve it some but if you're going to buy a special piece for special activities, may as well go with the glass IMO. After taking a closer look, the healthstone looks good, but as already noted I'd put it in a bong's bowl, not a classic VG. I have a similar piece for my volcano they call the liquid pad; basically a wire mesh disc. Works extremely well for vaping the spice. The pad inserts into the bottom of the herb chamber and you can just sprinkle the spice on top, and it melts into the pad, increasing surface area which further helps vaporization. Get the pad and a bong, drop the cvg.

Thanks for the replies everyone! It seems that the consensus is that I should really just buy a Health Stone to use with my nifty bong, especially if I am not going to invest in the full GVG. This would also be good because I can still use the bong's regular bowl for changa. It will become a spice smoking machine! Icon - would you recommend the liquid pad over the Health Stone (from what you have read about it)? Have you been able to break through using the liquid pad? Also, if I was to use the liquid pad in the bong, would extra herbs and/or water be necessary? "Think for yourself and question authority." - Leary

The only reason I suggest the pad is because it's flexible and you could probably cut it down to size if it didn't fit in your bong. The health stone looks like a rock, which I guess you could grind into shape as well but I'm concerned that if whichever one you choose doesn't properly fit your bowl, that the spice could slide off and drip down the sides. Both these inserts are specially designed for their respective pieces and fit snugly. So I'd go with whichever you think will fit best, or make your own out of a bunch of screens perhaps.
But yea, the liquid pad on the volcano is an easy breakthrough. No extra herbs required. Maybe herb in your bowl with the pad / stone could help fill the gaps.

Well thanks a lot! I am very excited to try this out. A couple more though, I first melt the spice into the pad then torch the pad directly, correct? Also how many uses can you get out of one pad? I think I'll buy a couple right now.. "Think for yourself and question authority." - Leary

Well, the volcano directs hot air through the mesh and the spice vaporizes almost instantly, I think the pad is just there to catch it as it melts as well. In a bowl, with a flame heat from the top, I'm not sure how it'd work exactly. I suppose some light pre-heating to melt it into the mesh would be a fine idea, but that's a very delicate process. Either way you probably want some herb or something on top of the spice and pad just to protect it from the flame, and then torch directly. The pad lasts for a long time, I still use my original though not very often. It is really good at holding the melted spice, and can get sticky. Usually has a whole hidden dose in there after a few times of building up. To clean it once in a while you could bake it at ~400 or soak in alcohol.
Another consideration is the liquid pad is some type of metal, which doesn't react in the volcano's temps, but may when used with a lighter, giving a metallic taste. The health stone is 'inert' so may be cleaner with a lighter.
I'm kind of second guessing how well the pad will work in a bong bowl, because it's basically just the bottom half of a typical sandwich method. Should still be an upgrade from using herb as the bottom layer of absorbant tho. Maybe a better idea would be a getting a bong attachment for a titanium nail, like they use for dabs. In theory, could weigh your dose out, heat the nail, drop the spice on and insta-vape.

Aww I got too excited.. I think I'll just measure my bong's bowl and get one of the carbon inserts like the Health Stone. I'll try it out and report back with my findings, although this may not be for a while. My plan is to insert, put the spice on top, turn it into oil with a torch from a distance, have it melt into the stone, then blast the stone with the torch. All this will be done in a bong with no water to avoid the risk of condensation. I have a very good feeling about it, and I think I'll be able to easily tell if I'm getting the full hits. One or two huge ones should do it! "Think for yourself and question authority." - Leary

The Vapor Genie Classics bowl is about 15mm wide (inside) by 10mm deep.

One or two huge ones should do it! Sounds good, but with a few adjustments/comments: * Do not "turn it into oil with a torch from a distance". They create incredible temperatures and quickly vaporize anything even from a distance. The safest way I know of for pre-melting spice is to use a BIC lighter and putting it very close (~1.5cm/0.6in) to the mesh/screen/stone/whatever you are using. It will barely even melt until a few seconds have passed, and you will have a very controlled and safe melting process. It first goes from solid to waxy, and then liquid. You don't need to get it all the way to liquid. Just melt it a tiny bit so that it sticks to your mesh. * The thing to watch out for with DMT is that it quite literally "flees" from any heat source, and will jump and run around to get away from the heat. The goal is therefore to trap it in something that will cause it to get trapped when it runs. You can use the stone-method (which has many little holes for the DMT to rush into and get trapped), or you can simply use steel/copper scrubbers (mesh). If you go the scrubber route, make sure it's the mesh-kind with wide fibers (*not* the "cotton candy"-looking thin stuff), and pre-burn it so that it's red-hot using a torch lighter to burn off the coating (until you no longer see any smoke). Lots of people use that method; it's cheap, easy to get in the cleaning aisle of any supermarket, and works extremely well since the DMT runs along the mesh and gets trapped in the "loops" of the mesh. Some people worry about possible metal gases, but a torch lighter at vaping distance does not even get remotely close to the melting or off-gas points of steel or copper. * As for avoiding water: Some people have tried both, and have no problem blasting off into hyperspace either way. However, the hot DMT vapor will be passing by the water and will cool down, which inevitably causes some of the product to be lost in the water. So avoiding the water is a good plan. The smoke won't taste harsh at all, as long as you properly vaporize it. Which brings me to the final point: * When you vaporize, the #1 most important thing is to control the heat. A torch lighter is recommended since it produces a constant jet which doesn't flicker. I recommend starting at 4 inches and seeing if you get vapors, otherwise bring it closer, but never bring it all the way up to the mesh. I probably use around 3 inches, and the vapors appear about 10 seconds after applying the heat. The reason that you need to monitor and figure out the optimal distance is to avoid overheating the spice. When you see vapors, start pulling in slowly and steadily while continuing to apply heat at the same distance. When you have a lungful, stop applying heat (to avoid vaporizing more spice) and hold the hit for 15-20 seconds. You should see no vapor when you breathe out. Then re-apply heat at the same distance and take another hit. If you use this method, your smoke should be smooth and pleasant. If you rush things by bringing the lighter too close, you'll know it: The smoke will taste like razors.

Thanks for the info!! I personally despise BIC lighters; I have burned my thumb so many times with them it's ridiculous. Once I found my torch lighter I was very satisfied, and I have control; I can keep it 4 inches away if need be. When I said "torch" I did not mean a traditional torch; I meant a torch lighter (as I had mentioned it previously and was typing out of context). I know that if vaporized right it shouldn't really burn at all, so not having water should not be an issue. I will probably still go with the Health Stone as people rave about its use with vaporizing concentrates, and I want to see how it works to report back here and tell the forum if it's a winner or not. If it doesn't work I'll probably stick with the sandwich method or just use the scrubber as is recommended on some places here. "Think for yourself and question authority." - Leary

I agree that BIC lighters are awful, and my thumb usually feels like absolute crap for a whole day if I was forced to use one. But I didn't mean using them for the vaporization. Just do it for the pre-melting, since they burn at a low temperature and have no risk of starting the vaporization. Butane jet/torch lighters on the other hand pretty much go "from solid to vapor" instantly. So be very careful if you use them for pre-melting. The stone is probably going to be a bit better than a scrubber, since most of the porous stone's surface area is on the inside, meaning that the DMT cannot jump out onto any other surfaces. With the scrubber, there's always a tiny, tiny amount that makes the jump over to the pipe. That being said, it's such a small amount that I will never switch from scrubbers. But if you get the stone then I'll look forward to your report. Love and light.

Earthwalker is right. That SIC disc looks very good, but it may be over size at 18mm. By just looking at it, it looks more like a quality top piece. You may need the 11.1mm ceramic flavour disc.If you aren't sure about the chamber diameter of the classic VP, just measure the diameter of your bowl chamber. It should not be too tight or touch the walls. It's also been discussed here. http://www.australianvap...eramic-flavour-disc.html AU$7.00/+AU$7.68 international shipping (accept paypal) They also have it on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281225633630 (no int. shipping )
