So the cacti that where available to me had a bit of a flimsy and baby soft texture. Now they aren't flimsy like aloe plant or other succulents. Definitely sturdier than that, but more flimsy in comparison to the commonly seen PC variety or other trichs I see growing ddecoratively. They were newer cuttings but they had a harder time standing up on there own, due to being thin and long. So in order to keep them stable would you guys recommend setting them deeper? Also how does one stimulate growth in regards to girth and sturdiness. Id like these babies to support themselves soon. I tried searching this topic and didn't find much on it. Thanks guys.

Flimsy Cacti? If the cutting was taken from an under watered cacti, there could be a loss of turgid pressure. The cutting would look sucked up and be a bit rubbery. It is more likely that the cutting is just thin for its length, like you said. Not too much can be done if this is the case.
For a calloused 12in typical cutting, its normal to bury the bottom 2-3in or so in soil. It can be more or less but the idea is to provide conditions for photosynthesis and a healthy root system. Stake the cutting or bury deeper if its liable to fall over once potted in dry soil. Roots will provide stability.
Once the cutting has rooted in partial sun, water and gradually expose it to more sun.
Girth is mostly dictated by age. If there is a thin spot, it will not likely grow much thicker. All you can do is provide water, nutrients and most importantly, sunlight.

Right. Filtered or indirect light while rooting. Under a tree or in the shade of some thing for about a month or until the roots begin to develop. If it turns yellow, too much sun. Dry loose soil is best. Loose so you can carefully inspect for root development and dry soil because the cutting's skin will rot if it's in constant contact with moisture.
Yep. If it's in the dark, when it does begin to grow the new growth may be even skinnier! Haha.

Thanks mang! I know Ive read somewhere for some particular instances you want these in the dark for them to focus there energy on rooting. I don't remember for what instance this was but it just kinda confused me. I know at some point stress is good for them....unfortunately angry catus is a good catus Pleased

Youre welcome!
I'm still a beginner cactiphile and read anything i can get my hands on. There is just so much out there!
I havent heard about total darkness for rooting. Not that its wrong, just that I havent come across it yet. However, I believe some folks will put their cacti in a closet for the entire non growing season to prevent etiolation. Something like that..
Right now I have 5 pedro cuttings that are trying to root. They have been sitting in soil for a month and have yet to spring any roots.Confused The weather has been quite warm but perhaps they aren't thirsty enough Smile
