Hi guys,

I would like to perform the Tao of extraction of Syrian Rue but I have a few questions. I didn't know if it was okay to reply to the sticky thread...
- I would be using fumaric acid. Could you guys confirm how much fumaric acid to use per liter of water? What should the PH be?
- Likewise, how much lye should be added to water? What should the PH be?
Answer found in FAQ: 1g per 15ml of water.
- I have fine salt and raw salt. I assume the raw salt will contain impurities but I know there is nothing added to it. My fine salt doesn't say if there's iodine. Should I assume there is? The box says there is salt and either E536 (Potassium ferrocyanide) or E535 (Sodium ferrocyanide) in it.
- Can I use sodium bicarbonate instead of sodium carbonate or lye? Bicarbonate is very common around here, but carbonate is not.
Answer found in FAQ: Turn bicarbonate to carbonate by heating 90minutes in a 250°C oven.

Cheers!

For future readers, I got the answers in the chatroom:

To basify: PH of 11 or more.
To acidify: just a bit. (found in caapi tek: 1g of fumaric acid for 500ml of water. Other acidifying agents may be used, such as about 25ml of vinegar)
